PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Primary Parents,
Less than 3 weeks into the new school year, and we are already celebrating the many successes of our students. Continuing from last week's Book Week, where we enjoyed seeing their love of reading and learning shine through, to this week's Athletics Carnival, where we saw their physical strength, determination, and team spirit on full display.
It was so special to watch students being cheered on as they gave their best and to see them encouraging others who were pushing themselves. Every effort and every milestone deserves to be celebrated, and the last 2 days was a great reminder of that. Congratulations to Elang House for winning the cheering competition! A big thank you to all the parents who came along to support both events, cheer, and even join in the fun races. Thank you for being part of these precious moments!
Please enjoy some pictures of the Book Week Competition winners and some candid photos of the Athletics Carnival.

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Secondary Community,
As we entered the third week of school, our Year 12 students were already in full swing with the Bahasa Indonesia Individual Orals. The Internal Assessments submission process for the IB continues to progress as our students advance on their journey toward completing the Diploma Programme.
Our teachers are working tirelessly to equip them with the best tools and support, preparing them for this demanding, challenging, and rewarding time. Our commitment remains intact until we see each student cross the finish line. Your support from home is more important than ever in helping them stay organized, apply the time-management and organizational skills they have developed, and maintain a well-balanced life.
Meanwhile, another significant milestone is in the making as our Year 10 students put the final touches on their Personal Project exhibition. This project showcases their journey in the MYP, highlighting their ability to develop their own ideas, set learning and product goals, and execute their plans to bring those ideas to life. It has been an enriching process, culminating in the exhibition on Friday, January 31. We warmly invite you to join us in this celebration of learning, please see the invitation below.
Next Thursday, we will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Service as Action Assembly, a core component of the MYP programme. This program is vital in fostering students' sense of responsibility, initiative, and collaboration, as well as their ability to make a positive impact on their community.
As we regain the momentum built at the end of Semester 1, we continue to ignite a passion for learning in our students every day, in every corner of the school. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and deeply grateful to the teachers and parents who make this possible.
Sincerely,
Nelsy Saravia, Secondary Principal

Y9 Assembly
On Tuesday, January 21, we attended the Year 9 Assembly. It is always inspiring to see the creativity our students display in the preparation and delivery of these events. They take action throughout the entire process, from planning to executing every last detail, including sound, stage setup, lighting, music, presentations, scripts, and much more.
The highlight of the event was the video they presented to close the assembly, showcasing great moments they have shared this year as they say goodbye to the blue uniform and get ready to embrace Year 10 in just a few more months.
A huge thank you to their Head of Year, Pak Dodin, and the advisors, Ibu Farha and Ibu Krisna, for supporting them through this enriching learning experience. We also extend our gratitude to the parents who joined us for this event.
Y10 Guest Speaker
In our Pendidikan Pancasila class, Year 10 students are currently exploring the concept of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) as a manifestation of an inclusive and equitable Pancasila-based economy. More specifically, they are learning about the pivotal role of koperasi (a democratic business organization rooted in Pancasila principles, owned and operated by its members for their mutual benefit) and UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in building and sustaining the national economy.
To enhance their understanding, on the 6th of February, our Year 10 students will have the honor of hosting a very special guest speaker, Bapak Maman Abdurrahman, the Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of Indonesia. This session will provide students with a deeper appreciation of the vital role UMKM plays in shaping Indonesia's economy and offer valuable insights from a key leader in the field.
We are deeply grateful to Bapak Maman Abdurrahman, as a parent, for supporting this exciting learning opportunity. Your encouragement and enthusiasm for our Year 10 students are greatly appreciated. Thank you for being a part of their learning journey!
Empowering Students Through Exciting New Initiatives - PHE Department
In Physical and Health Education (PHE) classes, students have started new units, and here’s a highlight of what they have been engaging with. The initiatives outline below reflect our commitment to providing a comprehensive and engaging PHE curriculum that empowers students to take charge of their physical health and well-being.
Year 10: Student-Guided Unit
Meanwhile, our Year 10 students have begun a unique, student-guided unit that focuses on personalized growth and collaboration. Working in pairs, students are tasked with assessing their partner's performance, creating tailored improvement plans, and fostering overall well-being. This unit emphasizes the development of self-management and coaching skills, as students learn to design their own physical fitness plans. By taking ownership of their learning journey, they are gaining valuable insights into effective planning and performance enhancement.
Year 9: Net Games Unit
Our Year 9 students have embarked on their Net Games unit with enthusiasm. Under the guidance of Pak Alex, they are diving into the world of Table Tennis. This exploration has allowed students to revisit and refine their skills while deepening their understanding of the game. Through hands-on practice and strategic learning, they are enhancing their techniques and tactical awareness, preparing for more advanced gameplay.
Y10 Personal Project - January 31
The Year 10 Personal Project is a milestone in the life of an MYP student. It represents an opportunity for students to pursue their passions, define and conduct their research, and showcase their creativity while demonstrating the essential skills they have developed throughout the MYP, including critical thinking, time management, and communication. This project empowers students to take ownership of their learning and make meaningful connections to the real world.
Therefore, we are excited to invite you to join us for the Personal Project Exhibition, where you will have the opportunity to witness the remarkable journeys of our students and celebrate their achievements.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Service as Action Assembly - January 30
Service as Action is a core component of the Middle Years Programme (MYP) that encourages students to engage with their communities and make meaningful contributions to the world around them. Through this program, students develop a deeper understanding of their roles as global citizens while cultivating key values such as empathy, responsibility, and initiative.

Victories and Challenges: Recent Hawks Matches
Our U15 Volleyball teams continued their impressive season on Saturday, January 18th, with matches against ACG Jakarta. Both teams secured victories, marking a significant achievement. The boys' team finished the regular season in 1st place, while the girls' team clinched their spot in the final four tournament. Congratulations to both teams for their hard work and dedication!
On January 21st, our Varsity Boys Basketball team faced Santa Laurensia School. The match was tightly contested until the third quarter when our players began to lose endurance, ultimately leading to an unbalanced game. Despite this, the team showed commendable effort, especially considering they had only one substitute player. The final score was GJS 27 - STL 57. Well done to our Varsity Boys for their perseverance and determination.
