Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Career Fairs
Affinity career fairs are a great opportunity for students to practice interacting with employers, build their network, and increase their chances for job interviews and offers for internships or full-time roles.
All programs and activities are open to all Georgetown University students regardless of race, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or any other characteristic protected under University policy or applicable law.
Register as soon as possible! You need to register both with the conference, all linked in the Student Guide, and on MCV.
Attend our Career Fair Bootcamp on Saturday, Sept. 6. We will walk you through the basics of each conference and will provide opportunities to practice and get feedback on your TMAY. There will be other helpful sessions on networking, conference strategy, and more.
Watch the Career Fairs portion of this Overview Video (begins at 4:51).
Start practicing your TMAY now with the help of Big Interview!
Start practicing your "Why this company" and "Why this industry or role".
Create a tracker using Excel or another tool to list your targeted employers, plans, actions, and status.
Only a small percentage of offers received by Georgetown students at the diversity fairs have been received by international students. Successful students did the following:
Researched employers in advance to find out which employers and which roles offer sponsorship
Transparently disclosed their visa status early in the process (we recommend meeting with a Career Coach as early as possible to practice this language)
Practiced their TMAY a lot in advance - and got a lot of practice onsite at the conference
If you do not have a good idea of which companies you are targeting, are able to get TMAY and networking practice elsewhere, and/or are concerned about the associated costs of attending, you might advance more by working on employer research or interview prep back home.
Don't forget about our travel stipend to offset your fees for getting to the conference!
Attend the Career Fair Bootcamp, even if you don't plan to attend a Career Fair, for TMAY and Behavioral interview practice.
Watch MCV for Networking Practice sessions coming in September and October.

Representing and enhancing the Georgetown McDonough brand in a positive and professional manner is an important, shared responsibility. Students are expected to represent both themselves and the school in a manner that demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Three or more unexcused absences from McDonough Career Center-coordinated workshops, company presentations, and/or coaching appointments may result in suspension of school-facilitated recruiting privileges. Additionally, failure to show up for a scheduled office hours appointment with an employer will result in an immediate suspension of career privileges, including access to MCV, until the student meets with the Associate Dean or designee.
When participants no-show for an event that requires reservations, it is unfair to potential participants who wanted to attend but could not due to a possible waitlist. In addition, for many events, employers, alumni, and organizers are offering their time to assist McDonough students and no-shows indicate a lack of appreciation for their time as well as reflecting poorly on both you as an individual and Georgetown McDonough as a school. Before registering for any event, you should make informed choices and only register for those events that you are truly interested in and that do not conflict with class, work, student organizations or other commitments. Your registration represents your commitment to arrive on time, prepared and professional. While we understand that sometimes emergencies come up that no one can foresee, these should be rare and students should honor their commitments. If you are unable to attend an event due to an emergency, clear communication to the McDonoughCareer@georgetown.edu email account about the emergency is expected, ideally prior to the event start time.
Students who have accepted an offer of employment are expected to uphold that commitment. If a student is reconsidering an offer that has already been accepted, whether verbally or in writing, the McDonough Career Center should be notified immediately. Reneging on an accepted offer is a serious offense that damages the reputation of the student and Georgetown McDonough. Renege penalties are adjudicated by the Community Standards Board. The potential consequence for reneging on an accepted offer is immediate cessation of the McDonough Career Center resources, including MCV access and non-eligibility for all MBA Alumni Career Services for up to 20 years
At the McDonough Career Center, we encourage students to consider all of the resources and emerging technologies, including generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), to enhance their career management. It is essential to use Gen AI tools responsibly, ethically, and with integrity.
