Georgetown University participates in the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area in which member institutions share resources by allowing current students to engage in limited cross registration. Eligible registration requests are for courses at a host institution that is a member of the Consortium and that has a business school with current AACSB accreditation.
This includes American University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, Howard University, and the University of Maryland at College Park.
You may earn up to 13.5 credits from classes taken outside of the MBA program. Any course taken outside the MBA program must meet the following criteria:
Be graduate level
Be related to and enhance the MBA curriculum
Be unavailable at McDonough (exceptions may be granted for courses taken at international exchange partner programs)
Be taken at degree-granting institutions
Meet McDonough academic standards
The course must not be offered elsewhere at Georgetown University.
Consortium courses may not be audited or taken pass/fail.
To request Consortium registration, submit a Consortium Registration Form above to your Program Advisor along with a course syllabus.
Please note:
Registration for courses at Consortium schools is on a space-available basis and takes place only during the add/drop period.
Consortium seats cannot be guaranteed in advance by MBA staff, Georgetown University Registrar staff, Registrar staff at the host school, or the course instructor.
If your request is approved, you will see your registration reflected in GU Experience.
Approval from the MBA Program Office is required for any course taken outside of the MBA program by the deadline your Program Advisor communicates.
Since seats may not be guaranteed until the first week of classes, plan for a full MBA class schedule during registration and drop MBA electives when your outside course registration is confirmed.
If course credit hours do not match up with MBA credit hours, it is your responsibility to address any discrepancies with your Program Advisor to ensure you are on track to complete the total number of elective credits required for graduation.
As an international student on F-1 status, you may enroll in a maximum of three credits of online work toward full-time enrollment per fall or spring semester, as long as you are registered for a full-time course load. No limits apply in the summer.
Note that the MBA academic calendar differs from that of the host school or institution, so be sure to check all required dates, deadlines and schedules carefully for outside courses. Tuition for courses taken through the Consortium will be billed at MBA rates and paid to Georgetown University.
Consortium course grades appear on your Georgetown University transcript but these grades are not used in the determination of your GPA.
You are responsible for abiding by all regulations of the other institution regarding enrollment, attendance, and withdrawal.
Because grading timetables vary from school to school and you cannot be cleared for MBA graduation until your grade is received from the Registrar of the host school, we do not recommend you take Consortium courses during your final semester in the MBA program.
