MBA students may complete up to three of the certificates below before graduation.
We don't necessarily recommend you work toward multiple certificates since they are meant as specializations or focus areas; breadth is shown by the MBA degree.
A third certificate will appear in a different spot on your transcript than the other two certificates. It may look odd, but has to be done this way manually because of a GU system limitation to two “regular” certificates.
Completing certificates requires careful course planning.
See the guidance for each certificate below. Also see the MBA Courses & Anticipated Timing page (subject to change) for the semester that certificate classes tend to be offered, prerequisites, and whether evening sections are typically available.
Seating availability in certificate courses is not guaranteed.
Capacity is limited and enrollment is first-come, first-served according to standard registration rules.
No registration priority is provided based on certificate interest.
Course scheduling conflicts may make it impossible to complete one or more certificates.
This is especially true for Flex students who prioritize early graduation over completing certificates.
Certificates cannot be completed remotely since some classes are only offered in person (In-person classes cannot be completed remotely).
Flex Online students are not eligible to complete a certificate unless they are able to enroll in and attend classes in Washington, DC.
You can double-count the same elective toward more than one certificate.
See the "Eligible for MBA Certificate(s)" column of the MBA schedule of classes documents to know whether a course counts for any certificates.
Students are responsible for tracking their own progress toward completion.
Use the "What-If" analysis feature of the "My Degree" audit tool in GU Experience:
Login to GU Experience -> Go to your Student Dashboard -> Student Profile -> MyDegree link on the left side.
Under Areas of Study, Specialization, choose your intended certificate. This is how the certificates are listed:
Business of Healthcare
Cert: Global Real Estate
Consumer Analytics & Insights
Non-Market Strategy
Sustainable Business
For the "Major" you can choose Business Administration or - for STEM - Management Science.
Click Process.
The certificate section will show what if any courses you still need to register for to complete the certificate.
The Program Office contacts students during their final semester with a graduation form to request that a certificate be added to their record in GU Experience.
Students need to be on track to meet all 7.5 elective credits for each certificate, or the certificate will not be awarded.
