principal's messge

The first trimester is quickly coming to a close. Teachers will be sending out their parent conference schedule and information to sign up soon if they haven't already done so. All conferences will be virtual again this year. Please don't miss this opportunity to have individualized time to meet with your child's teacher to discuss your child's progress so far and discuss areas of strength and improvement. As a reminder, parent-teacher conference days are early dismissal days for grades 1-6, beginning Tuesday, November 16-19th.

Next week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Our wonderful PTA has organized some spirit dress up days and some prizes for students as well. Please see the attached schedule for each dress up day next week. All of these dress up days are for fun and always optional.

We are sad to announce that the annual Halloween parade will not take place as normal this year. We will still celebrate Halloween with students and staff but we cannot invite parents to our traditional parade. The number of parents our parade typically draws is not safe this year for students, staff or our community. Students and staff will parade around our campus and costumes may be worn to school if they do not interfere with their own or another student's learning. Costumes should also be easy to get in and out of for restroom purposes as the staff cannot help students with costumes. Please see the detailed information that is being sent home today in your child's Friday Folder. We are hopeful to bring back this wonderful tradition next year. Thank you for your understanding.

Continue to stay safe and healthy. Enjoy this rainy fall weekend.

Sincerely,

Ms. Johanna Cho

Principal

2. Survey for community interest in gathering for in-person programs

As a PTA we are working on bringing more programs to our community through our school. We are evaluating several virtual and in-person options. One idea was to have an outdoor movie night at our school grounds (of course with masks and social distancing). Before planning the event we want to understand the comfort level of our community in gathering as a group. Please fill out this survey to help us understand your preferences.

3. Red Ribbon Week 2021 (October 23- October 31)

This year's theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me." Since PTA volunteers cannot be on campus talking to the students this year, we need parents' help. Watch the video https://youtu.be/jHvIVjLP4fI with your children and talk to them about staying drug free. Help them sign the attached pledge form. All students will receive a pencil and a sticker to remind them to stay drug-free. We have also planned spirit days for next week (flyer attached). The class with maximum participation gets a trophy and all students in that class receive special goodies. We also have a video challenge for the students (flyer attached) and top three videos will receive $25 gift cards!!

4. Birthday Book Club

Birthday Book Club is back. This is a great way to leave a legacy at our school for your child by adding books to our school library. The initial response has been great and your child can still participate. For details, check out the attached flyer.
