Hello Parkmont Families,
Happy 100th day of school! I hope this newsletter find you and your families continuing to remain healthy and in good spirits. This month is filled with so many fun and important celebrations and holidays, it is sure to be busy each and everyday. I'd love to see pictures of your children participating in the various activities teachers have planned: Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day, Black History Month presentations and more... please send me any pictures and I can include them on our Instagram page and maybe even in our yearbook.
I continue to be impressed with the amount of tenacity our students, teachers and parents continue to have. Learning from home is NOT easy. But when I am visiting classrooms, teachers are smiling, kids are smiling and better yet, they are engaged and learning! Keep up the great work!
You should have received an email asking you to take a parent survey regarding returning to in person instruction. Please take a moment to give your input. I am hopeful that a student survey will also be sent out and that you will assist your children in giving their input as well.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Stay well,
Ms. Johanna Cho

The Summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California, or “Summative ELPAC,” is the test used to measure how well students understand English when it is not the language they speak at home. Information from the ELPAC tells your child’s teacher about the areas in which your child needs extra support.
This spring, some children will take the Summative ELPAC.
Students in kindergarten through grade twelve who are classified as English learners will take the Summative ELPAC every year until they are reclassified as proficient in English. Students are tested on their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Your child’s voice is being recorded as part of the Speaking test. A small percentage of student responses will be used to validate the accuracy of scoring and will not be used for identification. All recorded responses will be destroyed after the scores are validated.
You are an important part of your child’s education. To help your child get ready for the test, you can:
∙ Read to your child, or have them read to you on a regular basis.
∙ Use pictures and ask your child to tell you what they see, or what is happening in each picture.
∙ Provide your child with opportunities to use language outside of school.
∙ Talk with your child’s teacher about your child’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to help support their progress.
To learn more about the ELPAC, go to the California Department of Education Parent Guides to Understanding Web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.
You also can look at sample test questions on the practice tests, which can be found on the ELPAC Web site at https://www.elpac.org/resources/practicetests/.
If you have any questions about your child taking the ELPAC, please contact Johanna Cho, Principal (510) 793-7492 x66106 or jcho@fusdk12.net

Hello Parkmont Families,
Elections for the Parkmont PTA Board 2021-2022school year is coming up soon, and we need volunteers to step up for important positions such as Vice President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian. These positions only need a few hours of your time every month, and training is available.
The role of the Parkmont PTA is to further help our children in all their educational and extra-curricular endeavors with support, volunteerism and dedication. As a member, you will be making important decisions regarding our school programs, such as FAME, Reflections, Music for Minors, and Variety Show to name a few of the events planned for this year. If we cannot fill these positions, our PTA stands the risk of getting dissolved and lose the programs that help benefit our children.
If you are interested in any of the positions, please send us an email at: parkmontpta@gmail.com.
