Newsletter 17 (21-22)

Principal's Newsletter

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break! It's hard to believe within a few weeks we will be off again for Summer! Before then, we have many things planned, so stay tuned!

Next week we get to honor the AMAZING Teachers and Staff at Parkmont! I'm sure you'd agree this year has been a tough one! Teachers have managed to provide engaging and fun lessons. They've made kids laugh and smile and share in the success of their learning! Thank you to the PTA who have some fun events planned for next week and thank you to all of the parents who are donating gift cards and snacks. Please take this opportunity to show your teacher(s) some love during this well deserved week!

As you know the Smarter Balance Assessment (SBAC) test is currently in progress for some grades and will begin for 3rd graders very soon. I wanted to explain the meaning of this test; while it is an important accountability tool for our school and district it is just another test. I want to emphasize that this test does NOT determine college readiness or placement nor do we use these test results for grades. I do not want to stress out your children. We do want them to try their best, to show what they know, but do not want them to worry, lose sleep or avoid coming to school for any reason. Please assure your child that you are proud of them, you know they have been working hard all year long! Make sure that your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast and comes to school on time and stays at school while testing is in progress. We would appreciate that!

Respectfully,

Ms. Johanna Cho

Comprehensive Health, Puberty and sexuality education

Dear Parents of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students,

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.

These lessons will be taught by school district staff during the week of:

4th grade: May 16, 2022

5th & 6th grade: May 23, 2022

State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher. Add deadline here as applicable.

Links to the curriculum, opt-out information, and parent resources, can be found at: https://www.fremont.k12.ca.us/HealthResources.

Thank you

Parent Input - 22/23 school year

We take pride in building balanced classes each year. If you feel there is information about your child that we should know when placing students in classes for next year, please fill out this form before 5/13/22. We do not accept requests for specific teachers.

MAZE Process - registration 22-23 school year

MAZE is Fremont Unified School District’s annual registration confirmation process in which parents/guardians:

  • provide required information for each enrolled student - such as emergency contacts and current proof of residency,

  • acknowledge certain parent/guardian and student rights and responsibilities, and

  • access specific school forms/information.

Completing the MAZE process ensures your student’s school has accurate information, and allows families to view student schedules/classroom assignments and their teachers when that information is released in August.

MAZE forms for all FUSD students must be completed online through the Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal. The window to complete the MAZE process for the 2022-23 school year is July 18 through the first day of school: August 17, 2022.

We strongly recommend that you take a few moments and log into your IC Parent Portal now to address any access issues before the MAZE window, when wait times for support may increase. Each parent/guardian should have access to all of their enrolled students through their IC Parent Portal. Click here for IC Parent Portal troubleshooting and support.

Throughout the summer, parents/guardians will receive updated MAZE information at the email address indicated in the IC Parent Portal, and updates will be posted to both the FUSD and school websites.

Please continue to update information as needed throughout the school year with your school office; having current contact information is vital in the case of an emergency. Please also note that parents/guardians must notify their student’s school WITHIN 5 SCHOOL DAYS of changes to a student’s address (AR 5111.1). Click here to view more information on change of residency.
