Volume 2 (20-21)

Principal's message

Hello Parkmont Families,

I don't know about you but I'm not sure what else 2020 can throw at us! As if the Pandemic wasn't enough, here we are with record breaking heat, fires up and down California, and unhealthy air quality paired with skies that look like we're living on Mars. I hope that in spite of all of this you and your family are staying healthy and safe.

Over the past two weeks, I have had the pleasure of reading to many classes. It was SO nice to see all of the students' faces and hear their voices. I miss them all so much! We read a story called, Jabari Jumps. It's a story about a boy who is scared to try something new. After reading, I shared some stories about myself and listened to a few students share some of their own experiences. We all agree that trying new things can be scary, and we may not be successful at first, but we know that taking a risk and being brave can end in very positive results! Maybe you can share a story with your child about something that you were nervous to try or a time when you were scared to do something new.

I am so impressed with the abilities of our teachers and students and how they have adapted so well to this new way of learning. I've witnessed teachers who had beginner level technology skills learn new programs, implement them with their class and share their knowledge with their peers. I've also witnessed some of our youngest learners, navigate their Chromebooks, enter and exit Google Classrooms and their Zoom meetings with ease!

While I know this is not the ideal way to start school, there is no doubt that there is already impressive amounts of learning happening in every class!

I mentioned in my last newsletter that your words of appreciation and acknowledgement go a long way with our teachers. Don't forget to also let your kids know how proud of them you are for all the work they are doing and how well they are adapting to Distance Learning.

Finally, please join me in sending positive thoughts and well wishes to all of those affected by the wildfires and a huge sentiment of gratitude to the Firefighters and First Responders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.

Be well,

Ms. Johanna Cho

Principal

FUSD Chromebooks - youtube

I have had many parents inquire about Youtube on the FUSD Chromebooks. Youtube is available but there is a filter in place to block inappropriate content. Youtube cannot be disabled from FUSD devices. As a family, it is a good idea to have a discussion about the appropriate times to access Youtube and should never be accessed during live instruction time unless assigned by their teacher.

GRAB & GO LUNCHES

Free lunches for any child ages 2-18 are available daily from 11:30-1 p.m. in front of the Parkmont Library. Students do not need to be present.

Hotspots

We continue to wait for our Hotspots to be delivered. As you may know there is high demand for Hotspots. We will let you know as soon as we receive them. Thank you for your patience.

FREE/REDUCED WIFI

Xfinity has opened up their wifi Hotspots to everyone regardless if you are an existing Xfinity customer. Please see attachment for more details and instructions to connect.
