principal's message

I hope this Thanksgiving break allows you some quality family time. I'm looking forward to relaxing and eating way too much! What's your favorite way to spend the holidays? Do you have a favorite food to eat over the holiday season? My mom makes the BEST cornbread, so that is always what I look forward to. I came across some Thanksgiving conversation starters from pinterest that you may want to use during your family time. Maybe you'll learn something new about each other!

How ever you spend your holiday, I hope that this time off brings you everything you need. Enjoy your well deserved break!

Happy Thanksgiving,

Ms. Cho

Tips for managing screen time/play time

Are you struggling with keeping track of what your child is doing online? I have been asked by several different parents to disable You tube on the Chromebooks. Unfortunately, this is not an option. You tube cannot be disabled from district devices. Kids are very tech-savvy and while we want to encourage their technology fluency, it is important they understand the rules you have established at home and during school time. Take a moment to read the following article which gives some good ideas for tackling these issues with your children.

report cards available 11/23

As a reminder, report cards will be available for parents beginning on Monday, 11/23. Please be sure you know how to log in to your Parent Portal. Unfortunately, if you need assistance we will not be able to help you until we return to school on 11/30. To access the parent portal please visit: https://fremont.illuminatehc.com/

GATE 2020-2021

Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. We believe that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students.

In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year. We are currently revising the GATE identification process and handbook FUSD will have an update by Spring 2021.

During the 2020/21 school year we will continue to identify 5th and 6th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers (staff only) and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 11, 2020. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification. In June 2021, parents, teachers, and students who applied for professional judgement will be informed of their child’s GATE eligibility.
