A big thank you to all of our staff, students and families especially our Panther Prowl committee for another successful Panther Prowl event! This is an event that we all look forward to each year, and we are so thankful that we were able to provide an in person event this year. The kids had a blast walking/running to the music with their classes, seeing Parkmontie and of course otter pops!
Progress Reports are coming home today. Some teachers send a report for all students in class, some only send for students who are struggling. Please know that at this point in the year, the teachers have been spending a good amount of time teaching routines, procedures and practicing what it's like to be in school again. There may be limited academic data and more social/emotional data which is just as important. We believe that students cannot properly learn if they are having in trouble socially or emotionally. Learning how to play with others, talk about disagreements, sharing, etc. are essential skills just as reading, writing and math are.
Beginning October 8 through October 20, I will not be on campus. As I mentioned at the beginning of this year, I will be getting married and going on my honeymoon. Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. Jain-Sharma will be acting as my Principal Designee while I am away. Director of Elementary Education, Robin Sehrt will also be available for any urgent matters. I will return to campus on Thursday, 10/21/21.
Sincerely,
Ms. Johanna Cho

As you know by now our parking loops are VERY busy during drop off and pick up. One way to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible is to follow the flow of traffic.
If you are entering the loop closest to the Kindergarten playground, please make a RIGHT turn into the loop from the Mowry side of Parkside Drive. To exit the loop, make a left turn back on to Parkside drive towards Mowry.
If you are entering the loop closest to the office, you will make a LEFT turn into the loop from Parkside Drive coming from Paseo Padre. When exiting this loop, you will make a RIGHT turn on to Parkside Drive towards Paseo Padre.
Drivers who attempt to make a left turn into the Kindergarten loop or a right turn into the office loop cause A LOT of delay in the flow of traffic. Only staff are allowed to make a right turn into Office loop.
Thank you for following these traffic rules in order to keep our traffic moving.
Please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for school each day. Shirts should have straps, should not show any midriff, shoes should be closed toe and t-shirts should not have any inappropriate words or images on them. Thank you for your help. Please label all sweatshirts and jackets as many items look alike. If your child forgets any items, please have them check the lost and found near the gym. Water bottles should also be labeled with student names. Masks are always required.
As a reminder and part of the cell phone agreement you signed, cell phones/devices/smart watches are NOT to be used on campus. Many students are using their phones on their way out of school because parents are calling. Please do not call your student during school hours or the few minutes immediately following the bell. Give your students time to walk to your meeting place. We will enforce the policy if students are using phones before leaving campus.
Please help us keep our students safe by dropping your child off at the gate and leaving promptly. If you are waiting for your child at 2:35, please stay by the gate and do not come on or near the track area. We need to be sure that only staff and students are on campus during school hours. If you drop off in the morning at the back gate, please help us by closing the gate behind you. Thank you.
Each week there are new specials for Spirit Wear. Take a look at our new store! This week there is FREE SHIPPING on orders over $60.00. The best part is that the Parkmont Spirit Wear store is open all year long and ships directly to your door! Show off your Parkmont Spirit!
As a reminder, it is extremely important that if your student is exhibiting the following symptoms please keep your child home and get tested. Symptoms include:

Cough
Severe headache
Sore throat
Congestion/runny nose

Also linked here is the ACPH guidance for your reference. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact the school office, and if your child will be absent, please report the absence. If you have tested your child, please wait until you have results before you send your child to school. If they test positive, please keep your child home and follow the attached process. Information changes so quickly, we will do our best to provide you with the most up to date information. Most recently, we were just given direction that at home tests will NOT be accepted any longer as proof of negative covid test. All covid tests must be PCR tests. We appreciate your understanding as information changes frequently. You can find the latest information on the ACPH website linked above.
I hope the children are getting ready for the Reflections program. Remember, this is not only an art program, but a wonderful platform for students to express their perspective and thought process on the given theme. Gear up for the event. It is a competition that recognizes students at unit, council, district, state and national level. Hope to see a lot of entries this time. The students at elementary level will fall under one of the following three divisions depending on their grade level
Primary ( pre k to grade 2)
Intermediate( grade 3 to grade 5)
Middle school ( grades 6 to grade 8)
Please read the Reflections rules before submitting your entry

We are looking for a Parkmont parent to serve as our Parkmont Representative at the District Enlish Language Advisory Committee. There are a few meetings a year as well as a few School Site Council Meetings held at Parkmont. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please email Ms. Cho (jcho@fusdk12.net) for further information. I appreciate your time and input. Thank you in advance.
We are getting reports of A LOT of students using very inappropriate language here at school, especially in the upper grades. Of course we do not approve or condone inappropriate language. It would be helpful if you could help us with reinforcing this behavior with your child. I came across this article with some helpful tips that might help curb swearing. Some quick tips to stop swearing before it starts:
Watch your own language in front of your kids.
Give them time to discuss foul language and what it means and how hurtful it can be.
Monitor their social media/media intake
Thank you for your support.
Don't miss out! Buy your 2021-22 yearbook now! Every year we have students who miss out on their chance to have a yearbook, don't let that happen to your child! Flyer is attached with a link to purchase online!
