Theme of the Week: Growth Mindset
Watch the Motivational Message from Mrs. Collins. Then read The Most Magnificent Thing. Then ask yourself or tell an adult the answer to the following questions:
What did the girl do at the beginning of the story when she discovered her “thing wasn’t magnificent”?
What might have happened if her assistant had not suggested she go on a walk?
What did she realize while on the walk?
How did she finally create the "magnificent thing"?
What led to her success?
What are examples of fixed and growth mindset in the story?
Click on this link for the video directions to today's lesson. Listen to one of the stories below about growth mindset.
Think of a time that you learned something new. What steps did you take to learn it? What about about a time that you failed at learning something. How did you feel? What did you do about it? Share your answers on this worksheet (K - 2) or this one (grades 3 &4). No Printer, No Problem: You can also write, draw or tell an adult your answers.
What do you do when you’re not reaching your goals as fast as you want to? Listen to a story below about the Power of Yet.
The Thing That Lou Couldn't Do
Then think about something you would like to learn how to do. What can you do to get better at it? How can you set a goal or make a plan? Try to break it down into steps. You can share your goal with a grown up or write out your plan using one of the links below.
Grades K - 2: Video Directions for Today's Lesson
Grades K - 2: Meet Mojo as he learns about Growth Mindset on Class Dojo.
Grades 3 & 4: Meet Dr. Nagler in this video. See if you can figure out why he's so excited about making a mistake.
Grades K - 4: What do you do when something is out of your control? Sometimes accidents happen. Sometimes we experience bad weather. Sometimes someone else doesn't treat us with respect. But we can have growth mindset when we work on focusing on things we CAN control. Draw or write your answers to this worksheet to focus on what you CAN control. HINT: Look for the Responsibility Circles picture to your right. It might help you to start to think about what you can control!
