Toothpaste Words - When we get angry, we can say things that we wouldn't ordinarily say. But once the words are out of our mouths, we can't take them back. Think of a time you wished you could take back something you said. How can you guard against that in the future? Visualize this toothpaste tube next time you are about to say something in anger that you might regret.

Let's practice some visualization. Visualization is when you use mental imagery or a picture in your head to create a peaceful environment or feeling in the mind. It is important to get rid of distractions and be as detailed as possible while you think of the image. Get comfortable, close your eyes, try to see, hear, feel and smell the place or situation in your mind. Choose two activities.

Lincoln is angry. Read Lincoln's thoughts when someone calls him a name and decide which ones would be helpful in calming down so that he can make a positive choice. Color the helpful thoughts green and the unhelpful thoughts red.

Have you ever said something when you were angry that you wanted to take back? We can't take the words back (it's like putting toothpaste back in the tube) but we can learn to take responsibility for our words and actions.
