Fun Friday!

First, listen to Miss Kempf's message and directions below:

It's Fun Friday!

This week, we learned all about growth mindset. We learned that it's okay not to get something right, and that it's okay when our goals take us longer than we expected! We can remind ourselves that we just haven't gotten it YET, and that with more practice and not giving up, we'll get it!

1) It's not really a Fun Friday without a dance break! Check out this awesome music video about growth mindset!

2) Remember when we learned about affirmations last week? Repeating daily affirmations to yourself can remind you that you reach your goals and to keep a growth mindset! Feel free to watch the affirmations video again (and of course, dance and sing along!)

3) If you feel like you want to take a drawing break too, check out this growth mindset coloring page and this affirmation coloring page. You can print them out and color them in! No printer, no problem - you can draw a picture of how you feel when you have a growth mindset and tell yourself your favorite affirmation!

4) Fill out this week's reflection form.

4) Reminder: open lunch bunch started this week! If you want to join, check out the schedule and zoom links here.

Mindfulness Thursday

First, listen to Miss Kempf's message and directions below:

MindfulnessThursday.mp4

Happy mindfulness Thursday!

Growth Mindset and Mindfulness are super related! Growth Mindset is all about realizing how we talk to ourselves and our brains, and replacing our negative thoughts with positive ones and reminding ourselves not to give up when we cannot do something yet! Mindfulness is all about being aware of the present moment, replacing negative self-talk with kind self-talk, and not letting our feelings control us!

1) Think about a time that something happened that was out of your control...maybe your zoom video froze, or your wifi stopped working, or somebody said something rude to you...

  • Think about how you felt in that moment.

  • What, if anything, helped you to feel better?

  • Mindfulness is a great tool to use when things that are out of control feel upsetting. Mindful breathing can help us feel calm, come back to the present moment, and remember the things we CAN control.

2) Try out this mindfulness video for kids. After, reflect on how you felt during and after the activity, and if you think mindful breathing would be helpful for you in situations you can't control!

3) Don't forget to fill out this week's reflection form by Friday.

4) Reminder: open lunch bunch starts this week! If you want to join, check out the schedule and zoom links here.

The Power of Yet

First, watch Miss Kempf's video directions below:

PowerofYet.mp4

Today, we are going to think about what to do when we can't reach our goals or do something as quickly as we want to.

1) First, watch Dr. Nagler's Laboratory - as you watch, think about why Dr. Nagler is excited when he does not get things right at first, and how he has a growth mindset.

2) Next, watch (and dance, if you want!) to the "The Power of Yet" video. Think about some of the examples of mistakes in the video.

3) Now, make a plan! Think of something you can't do YET. What can you do to get better at it? What steps can you take to accomplish it? How can you set a goal? Break it down into steps!

  • K-1: Draw a picture of your goal, and think about the steps you can take to reach it!

  • 2-4: Create an action plan using this worksheet.

No printer? No problem! You can create your own versions of the worksheet with your own paper, or share your ideas out loud with an adult!

4) Don't forget to fill out this week's reflection form by Friday.

5) Reminder: open lunch bunch starts this week! If you want to join, check out the schedule and zoom links here.

Read Aloud Tuesday

First, watch Miss Kempf's video directions below:

(4) _ Loom _ Free Screen & Video Recording Software (1).mp4

1) Today is read aloud Tuesday! Pick 1 of the 2 books I have listed below to listen to today:

2) Think about a time you learned something new. What steps did you take to learn it? Next, think about a time that you failed or struggled to learn something new. How did you feel? What did you do in result? Later this week, we will be talking more about steps to take when our goals take us longer than we thought and how to not give up! Once you have thought about these times, check out these worksheets:

Remember, no printer, no problem! You can draw/write on your own paper, talk with an adult, or just think about your experiences!

3) Don't forget that open lunch bunch starts this week! If you are interested, check out the lunch bunch calendar and zoom information here.

4) Fill out this week's Reflection Form by Friday!

Motivational Message Monday

Find Miss Kempf's motivational message and directions below:

GrowthMindsetMessageMonday.mov

Happy Monday and welcome back to Counselor Corner! This week, we are learning about growth mindset.

1) Watch my motivational message above and learn about what it means to have a growth mindset!

2) Listen to the read aloud of The Most Magnificent Thing. As you are listening, think about the following:

    • What did the girl do at the beginning of the story when she discovered "her thing wasn't magnificent"?

    • What might have happened if her assistant had not suggested she go on a walk?

    • How did she finally create the "magnificent thing"?

    • What are examples of fixed and growth mindset in the story?

3) Reminder: open lunch bunch by grade starts this week! This is totally optional, but if you want to stop by, check out the schedule and zoom links here.

4) Don't forget to fill out this week's reflection form by Friday!
