Monday, June 8th - Motivational Monday
Listen to a Message from Mrs. Collins about our theme for the week.
Racism means to hate someone, exclude, them , or treat them badly because of their race or the color of their skin. It might help to listen to a book called A Kids Book About Racism by Jelani Memory to better understand this idea.
Another book that might be helpful is called Let’s Talk About Race by Julius Lester.
As people respond to racism throughout our country, we share in the suffering that is felt across our nation and in our own town. Speaking out against the mistreatment of any person is the responsibility of every person. Although education is one way we can fight against hatred and bring about healing, sometimes we need to realize our need to respectfully listen to someone else and embrace the differences among us.
Listen to a Message from Mrs. Collins about our theme for the week.
Celebrate our differences and what makes us unique by filling out this worksheet (K-4) or this one (2-4) about yourself.
Despite our Differences - Choose someone in your life that seems different from you. Draw a picture of yourself and that person. (Optional: If you are able, use this questionnaire to interview that classmate). Then record some ways you and this person are the same.
Tuesday, June 9th - Read Aloud Tuesday

Say Something! by Peter H. Reynolds Optional: Say Something! Activities (K-3)
We’re All Wonders by R. J. Palacio Optional: We're All Wonders activities
I Am Enough by Grace Byers (K-3)
The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson (K - 3)
Don't Forget! During the Week: Connect with a friend, neighbor, or family member on the phone or through Zoom to interview them and learn more about what makes them special. (Optional: If you are able, use this questionnaire to interview that person to find out more about what makes them special). Draw a picture of yourself and that person using this link. Then record some ways you and this person are the same and different.
Remember during this time to use active listening
Listen with your body still and focused
Listen with your eyes looking for body clues and facial expression
Listen with your brain thinking about what the person is saying, not what you want to say
Listen with you ears hearing the words and HOW the words are said- fast or slow, loud or quiet
Listening to others, showing them respect and learning from them is an important skill to have. Keep practicing!
