Counseling Resources

  • Catholic Charities Mobile Response and Stabilization Services 1-877-652-7264 Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) deliver services to youth vulnerable to or experiencing stressors, coping challenges, emotional or behavioral symptoms, difficulties with substance use as a coping strategy or traumatic circumstances that may compromise the youth’s ability to function optimally and thrive within their family/living situation, school and/or community environments.

24 hours a day - 7 days a week. Call this number to find out about services for children and teens with emotional and behavioral health care challenges and their families.

  • Crisis Text Line: Text “NJ” to 741741 The crisis intervention service provides free, around-the-clock support to people who are struggling with issues such as self-harm or suicidal thoughts.

  • Family Helpline: 1-800-The-KIDS (1-800-843-5437) If you're feeling stressed out, call the Family Helpline and work through your frustrations before a crisis occurs. You'll speak to sensitive, trained volunteers of Parents Anonymous who provide empathic listening about parenting and refer you to resources in your community.

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.

  • NJ DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOTLINE

    24 hours a day - 7 days a week
    This hotline serves domestic violence victims and others seeking information about domestic violence services.

  • NJ Hopeline: 1-855-654-6735 NJ's Hopeline's mission is to provide support, assessment and, if needed, intervention in the most cooperative and least restrictive manner to New Jersey residents in emotional distress and suicidal crisis. New Jersey Suicide Prevention Hopeline's mission is to lessen the amount of distress you are currently experiencing and work collaboratively with you to develop a resolution to whatever stressors prompted you to contact us.

  • Mental Health Hotline: 866-202-4357 The NJ MentalHealthCares Help Line staff offers telephone counseling, information and referral and assistance in helping to get the behavioral health services needed by you or a loved one.

  • Mobile Crisis: Call 908-788-6401 for Family Crisis Intervention (free to the public and available 24/7). Hunterdon Behavioral Health offers mobile outreach services to adolescents and children in Hunterdon County. Parental consent is required to treat individuals under 18 years of age. Sometimes it is more appropriate to intervene with children in a community setting rather than expose them to a hospital Emergency Room experience. Crisis intervention in a home or school setting can be a very effective alternative to an ER visit.

  • SAFE in Hunterdon 24 Hour Hotline 1-888-988-4033 SAFE in Hunterdon delivers critical support services to the many families and individuals who have experienced violence in their lives. They offer a toll free 24-hour hotline, SAFE and transitional housing, legal advocacy, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling for adults, children and adolescents, and community education.

  • 1-888-222-2228 www.2ndfloor.org 24 hours a day - 7 days a week
    This is a youth helpline serving all youth and young adults in New Jersey. Youth who call are assisted with their daily life challenges by professional staff and trained volunteers. Anonymity and confidentiality are assured except in life-threatening situations. Youth that would rather type than talk can also get support via 2NDFLOOR's anonymous message board service.
