A video game specialist is someone who is tasked with playing video games in development and monitoring their performance to offer ways to improve the game and market it better. A specialist needs experience playing video games and also needs to be good at them, they also need to have marketing skills and skills in video game development. For example if you were a game strategy specialist for a game coming out like Jedi Fallen Order: Survivor, you would play the game and offer your opinion on ways to improve as well as come up with strategies for marketing the game that will appeal to what the game is about.
As demands for video games continue to increase and the backlash facing studios when they release a lack-luster product gets more and more severe, job openings for game strategy specialists will continue to increase.
It would be good to have a degree in video game design or software engineering and maybe a degree in marketing, but it might not be necessary.
