Civil engineers, in basic terms, design infrastructure. They specifically plan roads, bridges, tunnels, sewage, and other things. They are very important in making cities, and also help with supports in large buildings.
The job is expected to grow by 5% from 2022 to 2032. This is in part to replace people retiring from the job, but also to help with the ever growing expansion of cities and infrastructure.

Analyze plans, survey reports, maps, and other data related to project design
Consider regulations, site selection, and other factors relevant to a project
Analyze the results of tests on soil and building materials to determine strength for foundations and other support
Prepare cost estimates for equipment, materials, and labor to determine a project’s economic feasibility

As a freelance lighting designer, I stack my schedule with a bunch of projects. After I read a script, I develop a lighting plan in collaboration with the rest of the design team and the director. Then, I'm typically loading in one show during the day, which involves bringing all the lights and parts to the set.
