Job Description:

Public relations managers review press releases and sponsor corporate events to help maintain and improve the image of their organization or client. Public relations managers help clarify their organization's point of view to its main audience through media releases and interviews.

Educational Requirements:

To become a public relations manager, start by pursuing a relevant bachelor’s degree. Some schools feature undergraduate programs specifically in public relations, but employers still typically hire entry-level PR professionals with bachelor’s degrees in communications, business or social sciences. A master’s degree in public relations is not a requirement but can lead to career advancement. Enrollees in non-PR degrees can develop suitable experience by completing internships. Interns can use their experience in future roles or bolster their portfolios with prospective employers. Before reaching a management-level PR role, individuals need on-the-job experience. Some employers may consider managers with as little as three years of experience, while others prefer professionals who have worked in PR for five or more years. Eligibility for PR manager certifications may also require a specific amount of experience.
