Publicists are responsible for creating and managing publicity campaigns for companies, brands, public individuals, and products such as music, films, or books. Duties include managing day to day relations with media as well as the social media accounts of the company. Additionally, publicists are also responsible for scheduling events, speaking engagements, interviews and public appearances with the relevant personnel. In some instances, publicists are responsible for creating buzz for new products to increase sales and demand.
Publicists have a Bright Outlook occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, will have large numbers of job openings, or are new and emerging occupations. With the amount of social media influencers and brands coming out publicists are needed more than ever.
A bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, business or English is typically required to become a publicist. For higher-level positions, employers may require a master's degree in public relations or journalism. Proven experience as a publicist in the industry is also preferred.
