A shading and texture artist is responsible for the look and feel of materials on characters and props and making them look realistic within a scene. Depending on the type of animation their job may differ. An example of this is within 3d animation, in which they specialize in creating the textures of 3D models.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of positions for all craft and fine artists, is expected to increase only 14% over the 2020-2030 decade, and the more specific category of fine artists, including painters, sculptors, and illustrators, is expected to show the same growth (www.bls.gov).
