Examinations

Students in MYP years S1 to S3 do not sit formal examinations. In the MYP each Unit is assessed by an internal assessment, assessed against the MYP Assessment criteria. 

S4 MYP examinations: at the end of the year in the summer term, S4 practice for the e-Assessments at the end of S5. Most of these assessments are on screen.

S5 MYP examinations: Mock MYP e-Assessments will be organised in March 2024; the final e-Assessments are in May 2024. In S5 students also have to complete internal assessments, submitting the e-Portfolio for Art or Music as well as the Personal Project. These must be submitted by February half term. Students will also have an oral assessment in L2 and L3. 

In S6 there are class based tests in November and examinations in at least two of the IB papers per subject in May. These may be considered as “pre-mock” examinations as they give students the experience of the setting and timeframes of the final external examinations. They are also a key element (but not the only factor) in the teachers’ judgement of predicted grades which are used for university applications.

In S7 the Mock Examinations take place in February over two weeks either side of the half-term break.  Additional examination practice is organised by teachers.  

From April of S6 until January of S7 students are heavily involved in preparation of their Internal Assessments in each subject, as well as their Extended Essay.  These components contribute between 15% and 45% per subject (Visual Arts is more).

To register for these various external examinations, the school has to pay fees to the IB Organization. We would kindly ask families to voluntarily contribute to these examination fees, either in full if possible, or partially.
