IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for S1 to S5
Students in years S1 to S3 do not sit formal examinations. In the MYP each Unit is assessed internally by the teacher against the MYP Assessment criteria.
In S4, during the summer term, S4 students take a mock exam in preparation for the e-Assessments at the end of S5. Most of these assessments are on screen.
In S5 students will sit their MYP examinations, equivalent to GCSE. The MYP exams are e-assessments, namely they will be taken on a computer. A mock e-assessments will be organised in March, while the final MYP e-Assessments will take place in May. Results are usually published in August.
S5 students also have to complete internal assessments, submitting an e-Portfolio for Art / Music / Design / PE, as well as a Personal Project. These must be submitted by February half-term. Students will also have an oral assessment in L2 and L3.
IB Diploma Programme (DP) S6&7
In November S6 students take “pre-mock” exams in at least two of the IB papers per subject. These give students the experience of the setting and timeframes of the final external examinations. They are also a key element (but not the only factor) in the teachers’ judgement of predicted grades which are used for university applications.
From April of S6 until January of S7 students are heavily involved in preparation of their Internal Assessments in each subject, as well as their Extended Essay. These components contribute between 15% and 45% of the final mark per subject (for Visual Arts is more).
S7 Mock Examinations are organised in February over the two weeks either side of the half-term break. Additional examination practice may be organised by teachers, as required. S7 final Examinations take place in April and May and results are usually published in July.
To register for these various external examinations, the school has to pay fees to the IB Organization. We would kindly ask families to voluntarily contribute to these examination fees, either in full, if possible, or partially.
In 2024-25 the MYP Certificate fee was £420 for the full set of subjects and the Diploma fee was £440 for 6 subjects.
