Class Teachers & S6-S7 Tutors
The Deputy Heads of Secondary shall appoint a Class Teacher (S1-S5) or a Tutor (S6 and S7) for each class in the Secondary cycle.
The responsibilities of the Class Teacher/Tutor include:
Acting as the link between parents / the parent representatives of the class/student, the class representatives and all the teachers who teach the class
Monitoring pastoral issues relating to students’ and behaviour by regularly checking CPOMS;
Monitoring students’ academic progress;
Assisting the Head, Deputy Heads and colleagues in disciplinary matters;;
Preparing for and leading Class Council meetings, with support from the Deputy Headteacher;
Checking reports for the class/students.
The Class Teacher / Tutor is expected to:
Ensure that students are familiar with the general rules of the school.
Pass on relevant information to students and make sure they understand how it affects
them.
Act as a central collecting point for information about students.
Give support and guidance to their students.
Prepare and lead Class Councils with support from the Deputy Head
Work closely with other teachers, management and parents in dealing with problems concerning their class/students.
Assist in the resolution of individual or class problems.
Encourage, along with other staff, high standards of work and behaviour.
Assist in the integration of new students, particularly those who are new to the school.
Liaise with the group’s previous and succeeding Class Teacher / Tutor about specific problems.
Absent Teachers
Absent teachers are replaced as far as possible for S1-S5 classes; work will be set for S6 and S7.
S1-S5 pupils should go to their classroom and wait for the teacher who is covering.
If a teacher does not come to their lesson, pupils have to report to the Reception after waiting for ten minutes.
