Learning Intention:
Students will aim to create toy telephones
Success Criteria:
I can: tie knots in string
I can: communicate with a member of my family in a different way
Making and Creating Steps
· You will need two recycled clean tins for this activity. They will need to have the labels removed and also be washed. If you don’t have cans you can use polystyrene or plastic cups.
· You could decorate these tins the same way you decorated your tin last week or you can leave it plain
· Ask an adult to hammer a hole through the base of each tin so that you have a hole in each base. I did this by placing a screwdriver on the base of the tin then banging it with a hammer to make the hole. You must have an adult to help you do this and also to help make the telephones as the tin is very sharp.
· Place one end of the string through one of the holes in one of the tins and tie several knots so the knots are inside the tin. Place tape over the knot to secure it and also to cover the sharp tin.
· Thread the string through the other tin hole and tie a knot.
· Give one tin to a member of your family and carefully walk away from each other so the string is tight
· One person will put the open end of the tin to their ear and the other person will talk through their open end.
· See if you can have a conversation using the tins.
