What is IXL and How Do I Access it?

IXL is a learning platform that teachers can customize with math and reading skills for their students. IXL is also a powerful platform for analyzing student data.

All students in 2nd grade - 5th grade have an account in IXL.

Teachers and students will access IXL through Clever.

Diagnostic Best Practices

In order to provide the most accurate student data, students need to keep their diagnostic "up to date!" After completing their initial diagnostic (about 45 minutes), students only need to work for 15 minutes a week on the diagnostic to keep their score up to date. Not only will an up to date diagnostic provide better analytics, but it will show student progress throughout the year!

Analyzing Student Data

IXL can be an incredibly valuable tool for gathering student data. IXL uses the diagnostic to provide an overview and strand analysis for each student.

Standards Based Grading & IXL

Check out this blog to see how IXL provides standards-aligned content, keeps track of the standards measured for each assignment, then delivers real-time data on students’ work so you can adjust instruction accordingly.

Diagnostic Overview

The diagnostic overview under "Analytics" provides a performance level overview for Math/Language Arts at a glance. You can hover over the levels to learn more.

Each student has an action plan based off of their diagnostic performace. This PDF can be used to determine where to begin with custom skill recommendations, or to find appropriate skills for intervention.

Diagnostic Strand Analysis

The strand analysis gives suggested student groupings for small group instruction based on common recommended skills.
