Grade 4 had an amazing week as we began unwrapping our new inquiry and diving deeper into our central ideas. Students engaged in thoughtful discussions, asked meaningful questions, and made strong connections to real-world situations. Their excitement and curiosity are setting a wonderful tone for the weeks ahead.
The ambassadors for 4A next week will be: Theodora and Khalifa
The ambassadors for 4B next week will be: Melina and Nikita
The ambassadors for 4C next week will be: Sky and Diana
Inquirerمُتَسَائِلُون
Jannat went above and beyond in preparing for our Peace Parade last Friday. She created beautiful pieces of art to share with the Grade 2's. Well done, Jannat, on being an awesome inquirer.

Caring مُهتَمُّون Compassion and Mercy الرَّحمَة
Lilly has demonstrated caring by helping others with kindness and thoughtfulness. Being new to Dwight, she has settled well into the routine and shown a positive attitude toward her learning.
We warmly welcome Lilly to the Dwight family!
This week in UOI, students were introduced to Model United Nations (MUN) and learned how it functions. They were divided into groups to explore the challenges and problems their assigned countries are facing. Working together, they began preparing speeches on how to represent their country and suggest solutions, using the Kilmann model to apply different strategies for problem-solving. Students were also introduced to their upcoming summative task for UOI—we will share more information about this in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
Next week, students will dive deeper into their research and continue to work on their MUN presentations.
Central idea: The Peace Act supports fairness, safety, and respect in society.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Responsibility, Perspective
Lines of inquiry:
Conflict resolution
How the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) support peace.
Roles of organisations (e.g., the United Nations) in promoting peace
Learner Profile: Caring, Reflective, Principled
In Math, students are learning how to add and subtract 5- to 6-digit numbers with regrouping, while also understanding why place value is important in this process. They took part in an engaging activity where they applied their addition and subtraction skills to a real-life scenario. Last year, students collected money by selling healthy snacks, and now each class is using that amount to order indoor games that challenge their thinking and build teamwork. Working in groups, students decided what to order, explained the skills these games would help develop, calculated the costs, and worked out the remaining balance.
Next week, students will continue to work on word problems using bar models.
In Literacy, students continue to work on their informative writing. This week, they applied their skills by drafting their own pieces, practicing how to cite sources and understanding why giving credit is important. They also focused on writing strong conclusions that summarise their main points and end with a call to action.
Next week, students will focus on editing their work and peer-assessing each other’s writing.
This week in Science, students explored ways to reduce the impact of tsunamis through a hands-on design activity. They imagined they were applying for a job at a company called TSOLUTION™ and developed ideas to help keep people safe. After watching a short video to learn about tsunamis, students used a checklist of criteria and constraints to design and describe their solutions. They applied their scientific skills and used the knowledge they have learned in previous science lessons to complete the activity.
Next week, students will share their work in a celebration of learning, reflecting on their ideas and learning from each other.
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
Grade 4 students will participate in a Sound Immersion Experience on 2 October 2025 at Dwight School's Auditorium.

A reminder that students should bring their iPads fully charged to school every day. If your child does not yet have an iPad, please ensure they have one as soon as possible, as we will be completing some baseline assessments on them next week.
If available, students may also bring a set of headphones that can be kept at school for regular use.
Thank you for your support in helping students be prepared for learning each day.
Assessment Journey at Dwight School EduTalk
If you have any questions about the use of GL Assessments please refer to the detailed outline in the parent bulletin here. Please note moving to GL Assessment has not facilitated a change in our curriculum at Dwight Dubai, they assess both attainment and the depth of learning, with a particular focus on problem-solving, reasoning, and applying knowledge in unfamiliar contexts — skills that closely reflect the inquiry-based, concept-driven nature of the IB curriculum. If you have any further questions about the above please do not hesitate to reach out directly to Mrs Hornshaw to discuss further.
Toys and Footballs
Children should not be bringing toys into school (Beyblades etc). Please, do not bring footballs in from home - they are too hard and will hurt someone if hit in the face - we are ordering equipment for the Lions Den however PE have agreed to provide soft balls until this arrives.
ECA's
It has been great to see the buzz around the start of ECAs this week, with children enjoying the wide range of new activities and experiences on offer! Please be reminded Lower School internal ECAs led by Dwight staff finish at 4:30 pm. External paid ECAs finish at 4:45 pm. Those swimming with Urban Swim Academy have time slots booked directly with parents.
