Welcome to Grade 4!
It’s been a wonderful first week back at school, and our Grade 4 students are already settling in beautifully. They are excited to be part of the “big students’ building” and are enjoying the responsibility that comes with it. We had great fun with our get-to-know-each-other games, where many house points were already earned!
Each week, two students from every class will serve as Grade 4 Ambassadors. Ambassadors not only support teachers in the classroom but also proudly welcome visitors and explain what we are learning about.
The ambassadors for 4A next week will be: Haya and Adrian
The ambassadors for 4B next week will be: Almira and Aadi
The ambassadors for 4C next week will be: Kinda and Serafim
We are looking forward to beginning our first unit of inquiry in the week of September 1st. This unit will focus on The Peace Act and how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) support peace. Students will explore how these global goals connect to their lives and communities, and how they can take meaningful action as young changemakers.
Central idea: The Peace Act supports fairness, safety, and respect in society.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Responsibility, Perspective
Lines of inquiry:
Conflict resolution
How the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) support peace.
Roles of organisations (e.g., the United Nations) in promoting peace
Learner Profile: Caring, Reflective, Principled
This week, students have been working on baseline assessments in mathematics. These assessments help us understand each child’s current level and give us a clear picture of their strengths and areas to grow. This will allow us to plan learning that is challenging, supportive, and purposeful for the year ahead.
In literacy, students are also completing baseline assessments in reading, writing, and spelling. These assessments are not tests, but tools that guide us in tailoring our lessons to meet the needs of each learner. They will help us prepare for an exciting year of developing skills, strategies, and a love for language. We will continue these baseline assessments next week.
Home learning will begin next week. Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.

IPads and headphones
A reminder that students should bring their iPads fully charged to school every day. If your child does not yet have an iPad, please ensure they have one as soon as possible, as we will be completing some baseline assessments on them next week.
If available, students may also bring a set of headphones that can be kept at school for regular use.
Thank you for your support in helping students be prepared for learning each day.
Lower School Hot Weather Procedure
We are still experiencing high temperatures across the UAE and, as a school, we would like to share the measures we put in place to ensure the safety of our children.
We publish temperatures twice per day with school staff. Depending on the temperature there are a range of protocols and restrictions regarding outdoor play and physical activity. As a school we minimise students’ exposure to extreme heat and sun and take sensible precaution.
Indoor play timetable: Lower school students revert to an indoor play timetable during break and lunchtimes during high temperature months of the year.
Hats: There is a ‘no hat, no play’ policy in place for our Lower school students when playing outside - please ensure your child has a Dwight hat in school at all times
Water bottles: All students in Lower School are encouraged to have a reusable water bottle in school. They take this out during playtimes and to specialist lessons.
Sunscreen: In Lower School we ask that you apply sunscreen to your child before coming to school.
Outdoor Activity Adjustments: All PE sessions are held indoors at this time of year.

Exciting Music Opportunities – CMA Lessons & Guitar Ensemble 🎶🎸
We are delighted to share two wonderful musical opportunities available for our students this term:
1. Individual Music Lessons with the Center for Musical Arts (CMA)
We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Center for Musical Arts, which has been working with our school for the past four years. CMA offers individual music lessons during the school day on a rotation basis from G1 to G12 . These lessons are optional and parent-funded, providing students with the chance to learn an instrument with specialist teachers. Lessons begin next week, and registrations are still open. If you are interested please email the CMA directly: dwight@cmadubai.com.
2. PYP Guitar Ensemble – Auditions Now Open!
We are excited to continue with our PYP Guitar Ensemble for Grade 4 and Grade 5 students. Whether your child is a beginner or already plays guitar, this is a fantastic opportunity to make music together, explore different styles, and perform in school concerts.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:30–8:10 am, PYP Music Room
Auditions: Open to Grade 4 and Grade 5 students
Deadline to sign up: Wednesday, 10 September 2025
