What an amazing week we had in Grade 4! Our Unit of Inquiry came to life during our incredible visit to the Mercedes-Benz Off-Road Experience Centre. The field trip connected beautifully with our topic on systems, as students explored how different parts of a car work together—especially the engineering systems that keep a vehicle functioning smoothly.
To end the week, we celebrated UAE National Day with joy and pride. Students engaged in meaningful activities, remembered the importance of the day, and participated wonderfully in the school event. A big thank you to all parents and students for the amazing performances and for helping create a strong sense of community.
A big shout out to Chaaru, Arthur and Zhaoyang in participating in different Math competitions across the schools.
The ambassadors for 4A next week will be: Adrian and Adam
The ambassadors for 4B next week will be:
The ambassadors for 4C next week will be: Sky and Diana
Thinker مُفكِّرُون
Arete was an incredible thinker this week, when she completed her myth writing in many detailed, interesting and fun paragraphs. Arete reflected carefully and was also very proud of her work herself. Well done, Arete!
Aryan Keshup
Knowledgeable مُطَّلِعُون
Aryan has demonstrated the IB learner profile of being a risk-taker by tackling challenging maths tasks with confidence and perseverance. He approaches problems with an open mind, willing to try new strategies and learn from mistakes. Aryan’s courage and determination make him a great example of a true risk-taker in learning.
Communicators
مُتَوَاصِلون
Malkia Onyango
Inquirers مُتَسَائِلُون / Seeking proofs الاستِدلَال
Malkia demonstrates excellent inquiry skills during our Talkative Tuesday sessions. She takes the lead in unwrapping the mystery object by answering key-conceptual questions and keeps the inquiry moving forward. Well done, Malkia!
This week, we wrapped up our Unit of Inquiry with students’ future systems presentations and our exciting field trip. Both activities supported deep learning and helped students meaningfully connect to our central idea on systems. Their projects encouraged them to think critically about future world problems and create innovative solutions to make our world a better place to live in. The field trip connected beautifully with our topic on systems, as students explored how different parts of a car work together—especially the engineering systems that keep a vehicle functioning smoothly. Students also learned important safety measures, including how a hydraulic jack and screw jack are used, the purpose of a fire extinguisher, and why an emergency warning triangle is essential. They were excited to see real tools and equipment that help keep drivers safe on the road. One of the biggest highlights was the off-road experience, which the students are still talking about!
Next week, we will begin our new Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works. Students will explore the topic of energy, learning about different forms of energy and how energy is used in our everyday lives.
Central idea: Systems are created to bring about change and meet the needs of society.
Specified Concepts: Form, Function and Responsibility
Lines of inquiry:
How different systems function and what their parts do
How people participate in and influence systems
Ways systems can create change in communities or the environment
Learner Profile: Thinker, Inquirer and Knowledgeable
This week in Math, we wrapped up our Numbers and Operations unit, where students focused on strategies for multiplication, division, and solving multi-step word problems. They practiced applying these strategies in different contexts, strengthened their problem-solving skills, and learned to approach calculations in a logical and efficient way.
Next week, we will explore Geometry, focusing on lines, including parallel and perpendicular lines. Students will learn to identify and draw these lines and make real-life connections by spotting examples in their surroundings, such as in buildings, roads, and everyday objects.
This week in Literacy, we are gearing up for our Show Time, where students will creatively present their mythical stories. They are preparing and practicing their presentations with enthusiasm, and we are excited to see their ideas and hard work come to life!
Next week, in Literacy, we will learn about persuasive texts. Students will explore how to persuade others using strong arguments and clear language, and practice writing their own persuasive pieces with supporting reasons and examples.
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
