This week, in UOI, students chose their own topic and began preparing their summative task on one of the body systems. They applied their learning to explain how their chosen system works and how it connects with other body systems. Students researched and prepared notes focusing on three lines of inquiry: function, interconnectedness, and a healthy body.
Next week: students will prepare a trifold and create a 3D model using clay and other materials. This will support them in presenting their understanding of their chosen body system in a creative and engaging way.
Central idea: The human body consists of a network of interconnected systems.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Function and Connection
Lines of inquiry:
How body systems work
The interconnectedness of body systems
Maintaining a healthy body

This week in Math, students explored decimals, percentages, and fractions through hands-on activities and manipulatives. They made connections between the three concepts and developed an understanding of how they are related. Students used visual models to compare and represent values, strengthening their conceptual understanding. They also engaged in problem-solving tasks linked to real-world examples. These activities helped students see how decimals, fractions, and percentages are used in everyday life.
Next week: students will wrap up the current unit by reviewing key concepts and consolidating their learning. They will then be introduced to a new unit on measurement, where they will explore different measurement skills and real-world applications.
Home Learning
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
