This week, we have continued to make strong progress with distance learning, and it has been great to see students staying focused and involved in their lessons. They have shown responsibility, adaptability, and a willingness to keep learning, even when faced with challenges. Their efforts to participate, complete tasks, and support one another have been commendable. A big thank you to all parents for your ongoing support at home—your encouragement plays an important role in helping students remain confident, motivated, and engaged in their learning journey.
This week, in our Inquiry, students learned how body systems work together like a team to help the body function properly. They explored what happens if one system stops working and how it affects the whole body. Students also learned about ways to keep their body systems healthy by discussing different habits and practices that help their bodies stay strong and work well together.
Next week: students will choose their own topic and begin preparing their summative task on one of the body systems. They will apply their learning to explain how their chosen system works and how it connects with other body systems. Students will also demonstrate their understanding through research, planning, and creating a final presentation.
Central idea: The human body consists of a network of interconnected systems.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Function and Connection,
Lines of inquiry:
How body systems work
The interconnectedness of body systems
Maintaining a healthy body
Learner Profile: Thinker and Balanced
This week, in Literacy, students practiced how to write evidence citations using MLA format. They applied these skills while researching the digestive system, learning how to gather and include reliable information in their writing. Students also explored the features of informative writing, focusing on how to organize ideas clearly and support their work with evidence from their research.
Next week: students will begin their independent writing based on their chosen topic. They will use their research and planning to create an informative piece, applying the writing skills they have learned, including organisation, clarity, and evidence-based writing.
This week in Math, students continued their learning about decimals, focusing on hundredths, thousandths, equivalent fractions, and rounding decimals. They explored the relationship between fractions and decimals and practiced applying their understanding in real-life examples to build greater fluency and confidence.
Next week: students will extend their learning by exploring percentages and strengthening their understanding of the connections between fractions, decimals, and percentages. They will investigate how these three representations are related and learn how to convert between them.
