Students had an amazing week returning from the Eid break feeling refreshed and ready to learn. We also enjoyed an exciting school trip to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which served as a provocation for our new Unit of Inquiry. Through exploring artefacts and exhibits connected to ancient civilisations, students began making connections to our learning and sparked their curiosity about people, places, and events from the past.

Balanced متَوازِنُون Moderation الاعتِدَال
Pandora is recognised for being balanced as she returned to Dwight seamlessly after her time in London. She quickly adapted to classroom routines, reconnected with her classmates, and approached her learning with confidence, positivity, and resilience.
Balanced متَوازِنُون
Congratulations to Melina for demonstrating the IB learner profile of being balanced. She consistently approaches her learning with focus, responsibility, and a positive attitude. Melina manages her time well, supports those around her, and strives for success across all aspects of school life, making her a wonderful role model for others.
Malkia Onyango
Principled ذوُو مبََادئ/Honesty & Integrity
Malkia demonstrated the learner profile of being principled by following classroom routines and completing her work with care and responsibility. She challenges herself in learning tasks and extends her thinking independently. Well Done Malkia
This week, we began our new Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, with an exciting provocation at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Students explored a range of artefacts, with a particular focus on the Egyptian civilisation. They learned about the importance of artefacts, how they help us understand history, and why it is important to learn about people and events from the past. The experience concluded with an engaging treasure hunt, where students applied their observation and inquiry skills while exploring the museum.
Next week: students will continue their learning in our Where We Are in Place and Time unit by using the GRAPES framework (Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, and Social Structure) to explore and compare different ancient civilisations. Through inquiry and collaborative activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of how civilizations developed and influenced the world we live in today.
Central idea: Past civilisations connect to the present day.
Specified Concepts: Form, Connection, Change
Lines of inquiry:
Similarities and differences of past civilisations
Development of systems and technology
What we learn from archeology and artefacts
Learner Profile: Knowledgeable, Communicator, Inquirer
This week, in Literacy, students were immersed in a historical fiction provocation linked to our new Unit of Inquiry. They explored mystery artefacts, maps, coded scrolls, and archaeology photographs, using their inquiry skills to make predictions and ask questions about the past. Students were introduced to the features of historical fiction and analysed a model text to identify historical clues, setting details, atmosphere, and character introductions. They then applied their learning by writing the opening paragraph of their own historical fiction story, imagining they had discovered an ancient artefact hidden beneath their school. Students enjoyed sharing their creative ideas and developing suspenseful story openings.
Next week: students will continue to develop their historical fiction writing skills. They will explore different story hooks and will discuss how authors capture a reader’s attention. Using a model text, students will identified key features of historical fiction, including setting descriptions, suspense, dialogue, historical details, and ambitious vocabulary.
This week, in Maths, students reviewed previously taught concepts and strengthened their understanding through a range of problem-solving activities. They also began learning about measurement, exploring different units of measurement, comparing lengths and distances, and applying their understanding through practical, hands-on activities. Students used a variety of strategies to estimate, measure, and solve real-world measurement problems.
Next week: students will continue exploring measurement by learning about different units such as kilograms (kg), kilometres (km), ounces, and gallons. They will compare units, develop their estimation skills, and apply their understanding through practical, real-world measurement activities.
Home Learning
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
Spelling: Practice your words, we will have a spelling test on Tuesday (this is a new test day due to our new schedule)
Maths: Practice converting metric units of measurement.
Literacy: Grammar - practice progressive verb tenses. Creative writing - write a short historical fiction story, include the success criteria. Reading - Choose your spice level and read about ancient Greece, Tutankhamun's Tomb, or Cleopatra
UOI: This week in UOI, your task is to think about what is special to your family and choose an item, called an "artefact," to represent your heritage. An artefact is special because it can tell a story about where someone is from or what is important to their family. It could be an object, photograph, toy, artwork, story, or even a song. Upload the picture of the artefact, describe and explain why it is meaningful to you.
