Grade 4 had an amazing week of learning! Students took part in a meaningful session on the Peace Act, where they explored the meaning of peace in creative and thoughtful ways. They designed their own symbols of peace, shared what peace means in different languages, and reflected on how peace connects to their daily lives. This learning was also connected to SDG Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, helping students understand how peace is an important global goal. It was a week filled with inquiry, creativity, and collaboration, and we are so proud of their curiosity and engagement.
The ambassadors for 4A next week will be: Chaaru and Graeme
The ambassadors for 4B next week will be: Nai and Aadi
The ambassadors for 4C next week will be: Serafim and Lika

This week, our class explored our first line of inquiry, Conflict Resolution. Students reflected on various levels of conflict they’ve experienced, from personal conflicts to those in the community, school, and even the world. We then focused on applying different conflict resolution strategies we've been learning about, such as Avoidance, Competition, Accommodating, Collaborating, and Compromising. To wrap up, students showcased their understanding by creating posters to demonstrate how these strategies can be applied in real-life scenarios.
Next week, we will celebrate Peace Day and learn more about how the United Nations works for peace through SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Central idea: The Peace Act supports fairness, safety, and respect in society.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Responsibility, Perspective
Lines of inquiry:
Conflict resolution
How the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) support peace.
Roles of organisations (e.g., the United Nations) in promoting peace
Learner Profile: Caring, Reflective, Principled
In Maths, students explored skip-counting by 10,000s and 100,000s, and practiced comparing and ordering large numbers using number lines and group challenges. They reflected on patterns they noticed and discussed which numbers were easier to work with and why.
Next week, students will learn rounding and comparing numbers.
In Literacy, students explored how informational texts are structured. They enjoyed a fun activity matching text parts, then planned their own text using a graphic organiser. They also practiced using linking words and subject-specific vocabulary to make their writing clear and connected
Next week, students will learn how to choose a topic, plan with a graphic organiser, and write an engaging introduction in paragraph form.
This week in Grade 4 Science, students explored Earth’s features and volcanoes. They used Google Earth to investigate mountains, rivers, oceans, and volcano locations, noticing patterns across the world. Through hands-on activities and discussions, students developed their observation, research, and critical thinking skills while learning how natural processes shape our planet.
Next week, students will design solutions, showing how humans use science and engineering to live safely with Earth’s natural processes.
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.

Assessment Journey at Dwight School EduTalk
If you have any questions about the use of GL Assessments please refer to the detailed outline in the parent bulletin here. Please note moving to GL Assessment has not facilitated a change in our curriculum at Dwight Dubai, they assess both attainment and the depth of learning, with a particular focus on problem-solving, reasoning, and applying knowledge in unfamiliar contexts — skills that closely reflect the inquiry-based, concept-driven nature of the IB curriculum. If you have any further questions about the above please do not hesitate to reach out directly to Mrs Hornshaw to discuss further.
Toys and Footballs
Children should not be bringing toys into school (Beyblades etc). Please, do not bring footballs in from home - they are too hard and will hurt someone if hit in the face - we are ordering equipment for the Lions Den however PE have agreed to provide soft balls until this arrives.
ECA's
It has been great to see the buzz around the start of ECAs this week, with children enjoying the wide range of new activities and experiences on offer! Please be reminded Lower School internal ECAs led by Dwight staff finish at 4:30 pm. External paid ECAs finish at 4:45 pm.
