Balanced متَوازِنُون Moderation الاعتِدَال
Maxton is recognised for being balanced and resilient during his transition back to school. After spending time learning online, he settled back into classroom routines with a positive attitude, embraced new challenges, and reconnected with his classmates. Maxton showed perseverance and confidence throughout the transition, demonstrating a wonderful ability to adapt while maintaining a balanced approach to both his learning and friendships. Well done, Maxton!

Congratulations to Melina for demonstrating the IB learner profile of being balanced. She consistently approaches her learning with focus, responsibility, and a positive attitude. Melina manages her time well, supports those around her, and strives for success across all aspects of school life, making her a wonderful role model for others.
Lilly Abdou
Inquirer- مُتَسَائِلُون
Lilly demonstrated the learner profile of being an inquirer by showing curiosity and asking thoughtful questions during our visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi. She made meaningful connections to the Egyptian civilization and was eager to learn more about artefacts and their importance in understanding the past. Well done, Lilly!
This week, students in the Unit of Inquiry explored the first line of inquiry: similarities and differences in past civilisations. Using the G.R.A.P.E.S framework (Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, and Social Structure), they learned about Roman, Egyptian, and Mesopotamian civilisations. Students compared these civilisations using Venn diagrams, wrapping up their exploration of the first line of inquiry.
Next week: students will start working on their websites, using their research and learning about ancient civilisations to create an informative and engaging final product.
Central idea: Past civilisations connect to the present day.
Specified Concepts: Form, Connection, Change
Lines of inquiry:
Similarities and differences of past civilisations
Development of systems and technology
What we learn from archeology and artefacts
Learner Profile: Knowledgeable, Communicator, Inquirer
This week, in Literacy, students continued to develop their historical fiction writing skills. They explored different story hooks and discussed how authors capture a reader’s attention. Using a model text, students identified key features of historical fiction, including setting descriptions, suspense, dialogue, historical facts, and ambitious vocabulary. They then applied these features to begin planning and writing their own historical fiction stories linked to ancient civilisations.
Next week: students will transform their historical fiction narratives into engaging blog posts for an audience. They will learn how to organise their writing digitally, add relevant images and captions, and adapt their narratives for an online format.
This week, students explored measurement by learning about different units such as kilograms (kg), kilometres (km), ounces, and gallons. They compared units, developed their estimation skills, and applied their understanding through practical, real-world measurement activities. Students also solved measurement problems and discussed when and why different units are used in everyday life.
Next week: students will continue to practise using different units of measurement and comparing their sizes and values. They will strengthen their estimation and problem-solving skills through real-world measurement activities and learn to choose appropriate units for different situations.
Home Learning
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
Spelling: Practice your words, we will have a spelling test on Tuesday (this is a new test day due to our new schedule)
Maths: Practice various maths concepts around football.
Literacy: Grammar - practice writing speech marks. Creative writing - write sentences about a discovery, include the success criteria. Reading - Choose your spice level and read about Queen Nefertiti.
UOI: This week in UOI, list at least three items that people used in the old days and compare them to what we use now. Explain how advancements in technology have affected people's lives, making tasks easier, faster, or more efficient.

Dear Parents,
Your child is invited to ignite their passion for science!
Our students are being challenged by the Dwight Scientists to showcase their scientific spark in one of three exciting ways:
- Conduct a Science Experiment Demonstration — Design and perform an experiment, then share it with the class
- Create a Learning Video — Film themselves explaining something new they've discovered and share with classmates
- Become a Science Journalist — Research an exciting scientific discovery and write an article using Canva
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to explore their curiosity, build confidence, and share their learning with peers. Whether they choose one challenge or try them all, every submission celebrates scientific thinking and creativity.
Deadline: June 24th
Students can upload their videos, Canva articles, or experiment presentations to the class Padlet: Link
We can't wait to see the amazing work your child creates. Please encourage them to participate — this is all about having fun while learning!
Thank you for supporting their scientific journey!
Kind regards

Creating, Connecting, Celebrating: A week of creativity, collaboration and community.
To support the creative projects and challenges taking place during Spirit Week, we are collecting clean and washed recyclable materials from home. If you have any cardboard boxes, tubes, cartons, plastic containers, bottle caps or other safe reusable materials, please send them into school over the coming days.
These materials will be used by students to design, build and create as part of our final week of learning and celebration. Thank you for supporting creativity, innovation and sustainable practices within our school community.
