This week, students started working on their websites, used their research and learning about ancient civilisations to create an informative and engaging final product, creating websites. They will included the lines of inquiry by comparing different civilisations and understanding how artefacts help us learn about the past.
Next week: students will continue working on their websites, adding more detail and improving their content. They will further develop their ideas using research on ancient civilisations, ensuring their work is informative, well-structured, and engaging.
Central idea: Past civilisations connect to the present day.
Specified Concepts: Form, Connection, Change
Lines of inquiry:
Similarities and differences of past civilisations
Development of systems and technology
What we learn from archeology and artefacts
Learner Profile: Knowledgeable, Communicator, Inquirer
This week, in Literacy, students transformed their historical fiction narratives into engaging blog posts for an audience. They learned how to organise their writing digitally, add relevant images and captions, and adapt their narratives for an online format.
Next week: students will continue working on their blog posts by adding more detail and improving their writing. They will focus on editing their work to enhance clarity, structure, and engagement for their audience.
This week, students learned about time, including hours and minutes, and discussed how it is relevant in everyday life. They explored how we use time in daily routines and real-life situations, helping them understand its importance and practical application.
Next week: students will review the measurement unit, focusing on capacity, time, and volume. They will revisit key concepts and strengthen their understanding through practical activities and problem-solving tasks to consolidate their learning.
Home Learning
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
Spelling: Practice your words, we will have a spelling test on Tuesday (this is a new test day due to our new schedule)
Maths: Practice various maths concepts around the World Cup.
Literacy: Creative writing - write about the future in Grade 5. Reading - Choose your spice level and read about the Greek Gods.
UOI: Students will explore what modern civilisation looks like today by thinking like future historians. They will imagine what artefacts (e.g., smartphones, laptops, transport cards, or school uniforms) would show about our way of life. Students can present their ideas as a poster, drawing, or “future museum box,” explaining what each item tells us about today’s civilisation.

Dear Parents,
Your child is invited to ignite their passion for science!
Our students are being challenged by the Dwight Scientists to showcase their scientific spark in one of three exciting ways:
- Conduct a Science Experiment Demonstration — Design and perform an experiment, then share it with the class
- Create a Learning Video — Film themselves explaining something new they've discovered and share with classmates
- Become a Science Journalist — Research an exciting scientific discovery and write an article using Canva
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to explore their curiosity, build confidence, and share their learning with peers. Whether they choose one challenge or try them all, every submission celebrates scientific thinking and creativity.
Deadline: June 24th
Students can upload their videos, Canva articles, or experiment presentations to the class Padlet: Link
We can't wait to see the amazing work your child creates. Please encourage them to participate — this is all about having fun while learning!
Thank you for supporting their scientific journey!
Kind regards
Lower School Dwight Scientists
Creating, Connecting, Celebrating: A week of creativity, collaboration and community.
To support the creative projects and challenges taking place during Spirit Week, we are collecting clean and washed recyclable materials from home. If you have any cardboard boxes, tubes, cartons, plastic containers, bottle caps or other safe reusable materials, please send them into school over the coming days.
These materials will be used by students to design, build and create as part of our final week of learning and celebration. Thank you for supporting creativity, innovation and sustainable practices within our school community.
