Another week of remote learning has gone by, and it has been wonderful to see how well the students are adapting. They are becoming more organised, settling into their routines, and confidently following the daily schedule. It is especially encouraging to see them growing as independent learners. Thank you for your continuous support and partnership—it truly makes a difference in your child’s learning journey.
This week, This week in UOI, we began exploring the human body systems, focusing on the respiratory, nervous, circulatory, and muscular systems. Students are developing a deeper understanding of how different organs work together to help each system function effectively. During breakout room discussions, it has been wonderful to see students becoming more curious and engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing a genuine interest in learning more about how their bodies work.
Next week: students will be learning about the digestive system and exploring how different body systems are interconnected and work together to help the body function smoothly. will students will dig deeper into their learning about body systems, with a special focus on the digestive system
Central idea: The human body consists of a network of interconnected systems.
Specified Concepts: Causation, Function and Connection,
Lines of inquiry:
How body systems work
The interconnectedness of body systems
Maintaining a healthy body
Learner Profile: Thinker and Balanced
This week, in Literacy, students explored how to write an effective introduction, including using a hook, stating the main idea, and adding linking words. They also began developing their understanding of body paragraphs, discussing what makes a strong paragraph. Students applied these skills while researching the digestive system, creating informative texts that explained how it works. They also focused on important features such as titles, subheadings, linking words, using sources, and including quotations to support their ideas.
Next week: students will continue writing informative texts, focusing on creating a model text about the digestive system and further developing their writing skills.
This week in Maths, students practiced how to calculate the area of compound shapes. They discussed what a compound shape is and explored different strategies to find its area. In breakout rooms, students used measuring tapes and rulers to calculate the area and perimeter of everyday objects, such as iPads, notebooks, and tables. Later in the week, they made real-life connections by designing their dream houses, applying their knowledge of area and perimeter to their designs
Next week: students will practice solving word problems involving area and perimeter, challenging themselves to apply their learning in different contexts.

To ensure that the results accurately reflect each child's independent abilities, we kindly request that children complete the assessment without any support or guidance. Students will be placed in small online groups with an adult present for supervision. Teachers will communicate the date and time of your child’s assessment via Seesaw in advance. Please ensure that your child has a quiet space, their camera on, plenty of water, and a comfortable seat, as the assessment may take approximately 30–40 minutes. This approach allows us to analyze your child’s progress effectively and determine next steps for enhancing their reading comprehension and vocabulary.
