Another wonderful week of learning filled with engaging and meaningful activities! Grade 4 students made real-life connections while exploring the topic of energy, learning how energy is used, transferred, and stored in everyday situations. In maths, students measured angles, explored geometry, and discovered how maths is truly everywhere around us. In literacy, they developed persuasive writing skills by learning how to share opinions clearly and support them with strong reasons. It has been exciting to see students thinking deeply, asking questions, and applying their learning across subjects.
The ambassadors for 4A next week will be: Alberto and Khalifa
The ambassadors for 4B next week will be:
The ambassadors for 4C next week will be: Raya and Grace
Principled ذوُو مبََادئ / Honesty & Integrity الأَمَانَة والاستِقَامَة
Ela was amazingly principled the whole week. She worked hard, completed her tasks and supported her peers. Ela is a wonderful student and fully deserves this principled award. Well done, Ela!
No IB achiever this week.
Thinkers مُفكِّرُون / Thinking & Contemplation التَّفَكُّر
Rafael was an excellent thinker during our energy lessons. He made clear connections between classroom learning and real-life examples and explained how energy helps things work. Well done, Rafael!
In our Unit of Inquiry, students explored renewable and non-renewable sources of energy, going deeper to understand how different energy choices impact the environment and why some sources are more sustainable than others. To enrich this learning, Mr Lindsay shared insights about the solar panels installed in our school, helping students gain a real-world understanding of how solar energy is used. Students asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity about how solar panels work.
Next week, students will participate in a hands-on workshop where they will experiment further and deepen their understanding of energy transfer and stored energy through practical learning experiences.
Central idea: Energy may be converted, transformed and used to support human progress.
Specified Concepts: Form, Function and Responsibility
Lines of inquiry:
Renewable and non-renewable resources
How energy is converted and transformed
Responsible use of energy
Learner Profile: Thinker, Inquirer and Knowledgeable
This week in Maths, students continued to find and measure angles using a protractor while exploring 2D shapes and their properties. They made strong real-world connections, explored angles found in letters of their names, and took part in a fun, hands-on activity that made geometry engaging and meaningful.
Next week, students will begin exploring fractions, learning how to represent, compare, and work with parts of a whole in fun and hands-on ways.
This week in Literacy, students are learning about persuasive writing techniques, including rhetorical questions, evidence, exaggeration, emotive language, and calls to action. They explored how persuasive texts are written by identifying these techniques in examples and then began writing their own introduction and main paragraphs, practicing how to share their ideas clearly and convincingly.
Next week, students will continue their persuasive writing journey by learning how to write effective conclusions using persuasive techniques to strengthen their arguments.
Each Friday, activities will be shared via SeeSaw, including weekly spelling words. Students are expected to return their completed home learning by the following Friday. This can be submitted in one of three ways: directly on SeeSaw, as a physical copy, or in a home learning journal (which we can provide if preferred).
In addition, we highly recommend that students read every day at home. Daily reading builds fluency, strengthens comprehension, and nurtures a lifelong love of books.
Thank you for supporting your child in developing positive and consistent learning habits.
