APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
The course aims at introducing the students to the design of multimedia installations, that is systems capable of interacting with the visitors both at a sensory and at a content level. Students will acquire technical and theoretical tools in order to simultaneously manage different media, with a focus on audio performance.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Define and analyse the characteristics of an existing multimedia system
Media, languages, targets, action and reaction dynamics, technologies (hardware/software)
Develop knowledge and skills in designing and producing an audio performance
Create simple interactive multimedia prototypes based on sound design
Basics of multimedia design in space (exhibitions, theatre, public areas)
Action and reaction dynamics
Hardware and software interfaces
Audio performance case studies
Sound in audio performances
Real-time audio techniques
Production of an interactive audio performance
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Graded exercises
Creation of a multimedia installation
Oral exam
