APPROACH
Theoretical/project based

This course introduces the students to the conception and creation of multi-media products aimed at developing storytelling-through-images skills within documentary productions. Through the analysis of the existing designing methods, the students carry out a consistent project in terms of dramaturgy and direction. The audio documentary module aims at developing skills in producing interviews, micro-reports and audio dramaturgies interpreting reality.

The programme grants 6 credits, divided as follows:

• FILM DOCUMENTARY: 3 CFA

• AUDIO DOCUMENTARY: 3 CFA

Successful students will be able to:

• Identify the main techniques and uses for documentary production

• Carry out a critical analysis of existing projects

• Understand individual positions, roles and functions within a working team

• Produce a short documentary

FILM DOCUMENTARY:

• Non-fiction models

• Documental research

• Documentary styles

• Directing documentary

• Documentary cinematography

• Documentary production

• Purpose and use of archive material

AUDIO DOCUMENTARY:

• Audio Documentary

• Interviews

• On location recording in documentaries

• Purpose and use of archive material

This is a theoretical/project based course.

Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:

• Classroom lectures

• Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools

• Exercises and revisions

• Workshops

• Individual or group projects

• Individual or group study and research

Assessment tools may include:

• Graded exercises

• Completion of a project

• Oral exam

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
