Within an accurate historical and theoretical overview, this course develops an analysis of core themes edging among aesthetics, philosophy of nature, philosophical
anthropology and history of techniques. The purpose is to provide the students with the ability of observing links between art, nature and technique both in past
and present cultural systems and to see how they have been creating historical forms of subjectivity.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Discuss the relation among art, nature and technique
Analyse phenomena in the contemporary media
Use proper vocabulary for aesthetic analyses
Relation between subjects and the surrounding world in the Antiquity
Arts and Technique in the Middle Age, Renaissance and Enlightenment
Ways of critical deconstruction of the subject of the 20th Century
Post-structuralism and post-modernity
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the different topics:
Classroom lectures
Debates, presentations, peer assessment
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Individual study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Graded exercises
Oral exam
Writing an essay

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
Selected passages from the following subject-relevant authors, as chosen by the professor: Agamben, Aristotele, Bacon, Benjamin, Bergson, Derrick De Kerchove, Heidegerr, Kittler, Latour, Lucci, Minazzi, McLuhan.
