Theoretical/project based
This course presents the analysis of cinema and non-cinema intended works to foster the students’ creativity in relation with their artistic, composition and visual choices referred to audio-visual images. The purpose is for the students to reach awareness and maturity in the identification of suitable technical solutions for cinematography by making a practical use of them. Also, setting-up will be covered, based on the professional methods of pre-production: direction and production documents, casting, on set organisation, budgeting, communication with other departments.
The programme grants 8 credits, divided as follows:
CINEMATOGRAPHY: 4 CFA
PREPRODUCTION: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
Choose the most suitable photographic technique when filming
Be familiar with different light fittings and their uses
Apply light design principles to obtain specific effects
Organize complex productions with suitable supporting documentation
CINEMATOGRAPHY:
Point of view and composition
Film lighting
Classification of lenses
Study and parameters of exposure
Types of light projector
Greenscreen lighting
Colour temperatures, light quality and study of colours
Case studies and lighting of static and moving objects
PREPRODUCTION:
Production phases in audio visual productions
Setting-up operations
Locations research
Production and organisation plan
Casting organisation

This is a theoretical/project based course.
The students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Graded exercises with a final oral exam
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
