APPROACH
Theoretical/project based

This teaching is divided in two modules: Direction and Production, with the purpose of conveying to the students the professional skills of conceiving and creating an audio-visual project. Through the analysis of contemporary cinema work and authors, on the direction module students experience and define their own poetics in order to present, from an artistic and creative point of view, their final work. Particular attention is devoted to the analysis of reality enforced by audio-visual productions, whether as films or as documentaries; in the hybridization between genres, narrative contexts and stylistic elements. The course also aims at providing the students with design and organizational skills required in the professional environment.

The programme grants 10 credits, divided as follows:

• DIRECTION 2: 6 CFA

• PRODUCTION: 4 CFA

Successful students will be able to:

• Present a personal authorial audio-visual project, functional to the final thesis work

• Identify expressive solutions that are consistent to the chosen poetics

• Communicate personal ideas to an extended team of collaborators

• Manage the production of audio-visual projects

• Understand the funding strategies of audio-visual projects

• Apply project management principles to audio-visual production

• Analysis of the poetics of some contemporary cinema authors

• Analysis of contemporary cinema works

• Stylistic research

• Conception of an audio-visual project

• Film project proposal presentation

PRODUCTION:

• Audio-visual production

• Film industry perspectives and market

• Production roles

• Funding and financing audio-visual projects

• Festivals and distribution

• Cinema and transmedia

This is a theoretical/project based course.

The students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:

• Classroom lectures

• Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools

• Exercises and revisions

• Workshops

• Individual or group projects

• Individual or group study and research

Assessment tools may include:

• Completion of comprehensive projects

• Submission of papers, projects or research work

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
