APPROACH
Theoretical
This teaching offers an excursus into the history of cinema from its very beginnings to the contemporary production. Throughout the film analysis workshops, the students watch some fundamental works and discuss their main features.
The programme grants 8 credits, divided as follows:
HISTORY OF CINEMA: 6 CFA
SEMINAR ON FILM ANALYSIS: 2 CFA
By the end of the programme, successful students will be able to:
Know the various trends in the history of cinema
Identify a film as belonging to a specific current or artistic movement
Discuss the main elements that characterize a film style
Find connections between films of different eras and identify their influences
HISTORY OF CINEMA:
Cinema of the origins
Historical avant-gardes in cinema
From silent to talking films
Rise of the film industry
Hollywood genres
Great authors of modern cinema
Post-modernism in cinema
SEMINAR ON FILM ANALYSIS:
Film analysis and class discussions
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the different topics:
Classroom lectures
Debates, presentations, peer assessment
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Individual study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Graded exercises
Oral exam

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
