APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
Starting from the skills acquired in character and level design, as well as in interactive storytelling, this course focuses on advanced videogame design. It is divided in two advanced-level modules: Game design 2 and Game development 2. By the end of the course, the students will be able to create the complete prototype of a videogame. The Game development module provides the students with technical skills in the field of interactive prototyping in order to create functional scripts for the game and to integrate and optimize all the external resources.
The programme grants 10 credits, divided as follows:
GAME DESIGN 2: 6 CFA
GAME DEVELOPMENT 2: 4 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
GAME DESIGN 2:
Design complex interactive projects and manage al their production elements, with special attention to balancing through playtesting
GAME DEVELOPMENT 2:
Create and manage comprehensive interactive projects that integrate resources based on different tools
Streamline the final code through debugging
GAME DESIGN 2:
Iterative prototyping
Dynamic balancing
Chances and statistics
Artificial intelligence and neural networks
Puzzle Design
Indirect control
Playtesting techniques
GAME DEVELOPMENT 2:
Loops and variables
Functions and parameters
Advanced scripting
Debugging
This is a theoretical/project based course.
The students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Creation of a comprehensive interactive project
Graded exercises with a final oral exam
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
