About The Project

This project is about women’s representation in the film and entertainment industry. I researched different statistics like how many movies have a female lead and learned about some of the stereotypical roles women are often given. There are lots of outdated depictions of women out there, but there are many examples of great representation as well. The purpose of this project is to call attention to representation of women in the media and make sure they are being portrayed as strong and in other uplifting ways. Women deserve leading roles, important storylines, and positive representation overall.

Amanda Monzon (she/her)

I'm Amanda Monzon and I am senior at Lane. I chose to take Women In Lit because I wanted to take an English elective and learn more about women in history and the pieces they have written. I wanted to create a project about women in the media because it is super important how we are portrayed since people consume media everyday. I chose to focus on movies and TV because I really enjoy watching them and wanted to learn more about both good and harmful depictions of women. The way women are shown on screen affects how they view themselves, so it's essential for women's roles to have powerful storylines and show they are capable of many things.
