Like a Girl
About The Project
My project surrounds women in male-dominated sports. I chose this project due to the large stigma surrounding women in sports, as well as the extensive stereotypes that have been created towards us. I finally want to see change. I got input from several different women in sports in order to convey their views on this issue, including athletes from Lane, other hockey players, and Lane's head flag football coach.
“You have to be the best. Of course I want to be, but is it only success if it's first place all the time?” -Caroline Schwartz, Head Flag Football Coach
Audrey Dengler (she/her)
My name is Audrey Dengler and I am a junior at Lane Tech. I heard about Women in Literature through friends who strongly recommended it to me. I've played ice hockey since I was 8 years old. I started playing with boys, before transitioning to girls hockey in my teenage years, so I've unfortunately understood what it's like to be a girl in a male-dominated sport from a young age. There are so many hardships that I, as well as my peers, have endured while playing the game that male hockey players and athletes will never face. I want to spread the experiences that women have gone through in order to end the inequality within sports.
