About The Project
This project demonstrates the ways in which culture is often appropriated whether to gain attraction, or even make a profit. Large companies and influencers have been seen using parts of different cultures without giving credit properly to those who inspired them. The goal of this project is to demonstrate the reasons why appropriating cultures is unfair and the reactions that society has when different groups of people incorporate the same cultural elements.

My name is Yaretssy Padilla and I am a senior at Lane. I took Women In Lit this year because I wanted to be in a class in which I would be comfortable discussing issues women face that aren't talked about in most classes.
I decided on my topic for this project because I often see my own culture being taken and used for the benefit of others, without giving any credit. Culture is a large part of many people's identities, which is why they should be respected and not used as a way to gain attraction or make a profit.
