Earlier this year, a right wing influencer/podcaster named Matt Walsh released a documentary titled “What is a Women” in which he made a fool of himself trying to debunk transness as a whole and showcase right wing propaganda to make trans folks appear crazy, stupid, insufferable, pedophilic, and disturbed.
Re-framing this obviously rhetorical question, that was initially posed to make those who answer look dumb or lesser than, could actually lead to some very interesting insight on the socialization of women and AFAB people as a whole. The way people view women as an identity varies a lot from person to person. This project is asking the question, genuinely and with an open mind, “What is a Woman?”
My name is Frank, I am a trans man, I decided to take Woman In Literature after my classmate, Stella Carol, talked about how insightful and fun the course is. I'm excited to share my project with people.
I made this project after seeing YouTuber, The Grayson Projects, make a reaction video to the Matt Walsh documentary. I'd seen ads for this documentary in the months prior to seeing this video but I always thought they were some sort of weird satire. Having seen most of the documentary and reading a lot of Matt Walsh's quotes and rhetoric, I realized that he was fully serious in his search for the answer to his question. I figured I'd help him out instead of giving him the negative attention he so desperately craves. And he has a point, it's a very interesting question... What is a Woman?
