About The Project

CommUNITY is a magazine that we created with the intention of uniting the LGBT+ community and giving them a place where they feel validated and comfortable. A survey was sent out to LGBT+ identifying people which made it possible to compile stories and advice. The magazine includes pages providing information on the queer community and how to be a supportive member or ally.

"You have your entire life to figure it out. Take it slow. There is no need to rush the process."

Naelin Peffley (she/they)

My name is Naelin Peffley, and I am a senior at Lane. As a queer person myself, this project meant a lot to me, and I believe it's necessary to create safe spaces for queer people. It's easy for LGBTQ+ people to feel alone, which is unfortunate because a lot of our stories are very similar. To combat this sense of solitude we need to work together and create supportive communities to not let our stories be ignored. Something about our project that I am real proud of is our advice page, it includes advice from people in all stages in their journey for people in all stages of their journey.

Amelia Huge (they/she/he)

Hey, my name is Amelia Huge. I'm 18 and have just committed to college out in Rochester, New York. Currently, I have a lot of hobbies including singing, playing video games, crocheting, and writing stories. I've taken a lot of computer science courses and am going to study Human Centered Computing in college. I identify as gender-fluid and asexual as of now, though it seems to be constantly changing. This project means so much to me and reading about other people's experiences gave me so much comfort and happiness.
