Valentine's Market: 13 February
Friday the 13th is sometimes associated with ill fortune. This appears not to be the case at Clifton, however. With a little inclement weather knocking about at first, the sun soon shone generously on this year's Grade 7 Valentine's Market. The purpose of this market is not actually to provide a sugar rush to our clientiele; it is used as a vehicle to teach real-world skills such as budgeting, marketing, and advertising, as well as the necessities of teamwork, collaboration, and planning. And, sometimes, how to handle adversity.
With our stalls set up quickly and seamlessly, it was not long before all the Grade 7s were doing a brisk trade with the first 'wave' of shoppers - the Pre-School.
Having mastered the arts of chatting politely, politely pushing their wares, and giving change (accurately), the Grade 7s handled the arrival of the Junior Primary and Senior Primary cohorts (along with some ravenous staff) with aplomb.
After an exhilarating hour of trading, the process of tidying up and clearing away took place in record time, and the Grade 7s were soon ready to head off to the Inter-house Gala.
Profits from the market will be allocated towards the Grade 7s gift to the school, to be presented in the last week of the year.
The Grade 7s are most grateful to all for the support received at the Valentine's Market... it certainly was a memorable one.
