A Whirlwind of a First Term!
What an incredible start to the year it has been for our Grade 4s! Entering the Senior Primary is a big step, and we are so proud of how our learners have embraced the "big school" life.
Having moved into our brand-new classrooms in July 2025, we welcomed our 2026 Grade 5s into this beautiful, fresh and spacious space of which we are enormously proud.
Two classes, totaling, thirty-six children entered with excitement and trepidation. Mr. Wagner and Mrs. Lowe welcomed them warmly.
A Morning of Melody and Memories
Our Grade 7 team welcomed the grandparents in the car park and escorted them to the Chapel gardens. Under the shade of the maple tree, grandparents enjoyed a delicious tea listening to strains of French café music.
Continuing Paul Fleishack’s work at Clifton, our Grade 6 boys and girls recently built water filters using two key concepts: design thinking (a human-centred, iterative process of empathising, prototyping, and testing) and biomimicry (using nature’s designs to solve human problems sustainably).
The Grade 4&5 outdoor learning day started off bright and early with a social and emotional learning workshop with Mr Quinn in the Chapel. They were challenged to “do the right thing” in their everyday lives even when it's hard.
We were lucky enough to have a speech and drama performance in the EAC where grade 4&5 performed for the JP children.
Speaking my Truth
Facilitated by Mr Quinn and Mr Majola, the Gr 4 and 5 cohort participated enthusiastically in a workshop on the value in having difficult conversations, as well as the process of ‘doing what is right, not what is easy’ (with a nod to the wisdom of JK Rowling’s Professor Albus Dumbledore.
Stream-work makes the Dream Work
What a privilege to have Mrs Pandora Long of the Midlands Wetlands Project join us for the day on 23 March. A widely experienced educator with a particular passion for our local wetlands, Mrs Long is spearheading a drive to involve a range of local schools, including Clifton, Carlyle College, Shea O’Connor Combined School, Asithuthuke Combined School and Nottingham Road Primary School in gathering and sharing as much data as possible so as to share more, and learn more, about our beautiful wetlands.
Friday the 13th is sometimes associated with ill fortune. This appears not to be the case at Clifton, however. With a little inclement weather knocking about at first, the sun soon shone generously on this year's Grade 7 Valentine's Market. The purpose of this market is not actually to provide a sugar rush to our clientiele; it is used as a vehicle to teach real-world skills such as budgeting, marketing, and advertising, as well as the necessities of teamwork, collaboration, and planning. And, sometimes, how to handle adversity.
Excitement and chatter filled the air as Mr. Brown bid the Grade 6s farewell in the JP parking lot. That energy only grew during the bus ride, reaching a volume that made conversation at the front of the bus nearly impossible!
Fresh off the back of our Grade 7 Leadership Camp, the traditional Grade 7 Induction Service took place on Monday, 19 January. Mr Brown outlined the responsibilities and duties that the Grade 7s had to themselves, the school, the community, and the Grade 7s of the past - they have a strong legacy to uphold and to build upon.
It was a very cheerful, excited Grade 7 cohort that departed school on Day 1 for our annual Grade 7 Leadership Camp at Wagendrift Dam, where we were hosted by the legendary Tikey Odell and his 'The Farm' team. With a tailor-made programme designed for the Clifton crew, it was abundantly clear from the onset that the children would emerge wiser and stronger; well-prepared for the rigours of the year ahead.
