Grade 6 Design Thinking Challenge: 25 March
Continuing Paul Fleishack’s work at Clifton, our Grade 6 boys and girls recently built water filters using two key concepts: design thinking (a human-centred, iterative process of empathising, prototyping, and testing) and biomimicry (using nature’s designs to solve human problems sustainably).
The highlight of the project was seeing the children' 'Plan-Do-Check-Act' approach in action. When they realised their filters could perform better, they proactively modified and improved them.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone collecting data via the iNaturalist app. Your efforts have helped us benchmark our 100-year plan for sustainable indigenous growth at Clifton, whilst also contributing valuable data to the wider Lions River Conservancy dataset. We always welcome more data and iNaturalist is another activity for the holidays.
